Your Weekly Update from Wilson Middle School

Principal's Message
Hello Wilson families,
With only 19 days of school left, we have a lot of exciting things planned to wrap up this school year. Please click here to review the calendar of events document to review our events. Below are new items that we want to share with you. Please take the time to read it.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon:
Many thanks to our wonderful PTO for hosting a delicious luncheon for the Wilson staff this week. It was catered by Baha Mexican Restaurant in Natick. It was thoughtful and much appreciated!
Grade 7 & 8 Career Day:
We had a career day for our 7th & 8th grade students this week. We want to thank all of our community members, staff, family members and other professionals who came to share their journey, work, and experience with our students. See some pictures below.
Exploratory Exposition:
The Music Department is excited to announce our first ever Exploratory Exposition, a celebration of music made outside of the band, orchestra, and chorus classes! Any student who has taken a VAP, Exploratory Music or Music RTI course this year is invited to participate. If your student has created anything on Soundtrap, Garageband, or for an instrument or voice, they should consider being a part of this first-ever event! Solo and group submissions are welcome! All interested students and families should fill out the form here no later than Monday, May 20th.
The Exploratory Exposition will be held on June 10th at 6:30 PM at Kennedy Middle School. We hope to see you there!
Upcoming SPARK Event:
Event Name: Visual Storytelling Through Comics & Graphic Novels
Event Date: Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 1pm
Event Location: Natick Community Senior Center (117 E Central St, Natick, MA 01760)
Event Description: Join us for a special "hands on" program for young people who enjoy graphic novels! This is an interactive program for elementary-aged students (ages 5+) to nurture and develop their appreciation of comics and graphic novels. Author/Illustrator Jannie Ho (The Lost Mitten, Happy Chinese New Year, Fry Guys) will discuss how graphic novels are created. She will also engage children in a lively collaborative drawing game to make their very own comic.
All supplies for the program (paper/pencil) will be provided. Note: this is NOT a drop off program.

Middle School Art Gallery Closing Reception:
Please join us for this year’s Closing Reception for The Middle School Art Gallery outside the auditorium at Kennedy Middle School alongside selected artwork from both middle schools. We are holding the reception for the artists, their friends, and family on Thursday night, May 30 from 6:00-8:00. Please join us to celebrate the artists’ achievements!
We will be taking the artwork down that night to return to our students at Wilson the last two weeks of school. Please remind your child to stop by our art rooms at Wilson in June to pick up their artwork to take home.
Natick Youth Field Hockey:
Natick is getting youth field hockey this fall! There will be two teams, grades 5/6 and 7/8. One practice a week and one game on Saturdays. No experience required. This is different from the middle school teams. League begins early September. Come join us to learn and improve your field hockey skills. Email Ms. Pini (mpini@natickps.org) with any questions!

Paper - On-Demand Tutoring
Natick Public Schools is excited to announce our partnership with Paper for on-demand tutoring for NHS students. Paper is a secure, online tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Whether they’re stuck on homework, studying for a test, or need someone to read and make suggestions to their essays, there will always be experts available online to assist students in over 200 subjects and more than 4 languages.
Paper tutors have been specially trained to conduct expert, academic support in a secure, chat-based platform. With a commitment to helping students learn, they’ll never give students answers, but rather interact with them in an encouraging tone to lead them forward.
This is a free service that we’re providing, so students are encouraged to use it as much as they need, whenever they need. Our teachers also have accounts and will be able to review all student activity to see what they’re working on and provide more targeted instruction as needed.
If you’d like to learn more about Paper you can sign up for a Paper hosted Parent Info Session, available in both English and Spanish.
To see Paper and the help it offers firsthand, we encourage you to login with your students. To get started, simply visit PAPER’s student login page, type your school’s name, and log in via Google using your school credentials.
We’re thrilled to offer our students the unlimited, 24/7 support that Paper provides and we can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish together.
