Weekly Update to Families
23-August-2024
Message from the Principal
Dear Goodwater Community,
As we wrap up our second week of the new school year, I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates and express our gratitude for your continued partnership.
The past two weeks have been incredibly positive as we settled into our routines and welcomed our students back with enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to see the energy and eagerness with which our children have embraced their learning environments.
This week marks the official start of our instructional programs. We are thrilled to continue with our Montessori instruction while we introduce the new curriculum initiatives that we believe will significantly enhance our students' educational experiences. Our curriculum now includes Amplify and Eureka programs, both of which are designed to offer a rich, engaging, and rigorous learning experience.
Amplify is a cutting-edge curriculum that incorporates interactive materials and hands-on activities to deepen students’ understanding and foster critical thinking skills. In addition, we are implementing Eureka for math which offers our students several 'at bats' which is crucial in students mastering math concepts.
To make the most of these new resources, we encourage you to explore the materials provided through Amplify and Eureka Practice. These resources will be instrumental in helping your child review and apply what they have learned in class. These tools are specifically designed to support and challenge students, ensuring they are well-prepared for future academic success.
See the links below.
Your involvement and support are crucial to our students' success. We deeply value the partnership between our school and our families, and we are committed to working together to provide the best possible educational experience for your child.
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Parents can enroll using the link below and access Amplify curriculum.

Safety Drills 24-25
Our campus will use the 'I Love You Guys' Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for emergencies for the 24-25 school year. To ensure everyone is prepared, we will conduct drills throughout the year. Parents will be notified before each drill takes place.
This week, teachers are reviewing the expectations for these drills, as well as other campus procedures. We encourage you to discuss safety expectations with your child and to reach out if you have any questions.

Note from Dr. Bruce
Dear Goodwater Montessori Families,
I hope this note finds you and your families well. It’s hard to believe that we’re already nearing the end of our second week of school! The students are all starting to settle into their routines and this week we have begun both Montessori and our new curriculum.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our families for your flexibility and cooperation as we continue to make adjustments to our drop-off and pick-up procedures. We are constantly seeking ways to streamline the carline, ensuring that both drop-off and pick-up are as efficient as possible. Our primary focus remains on safety, and we deeply appreciate your support and understanding each day.
I do want to remind everyone that our next Board Meeting will be Tuesday, August 27, 2024, 6:30 pm at Goodwater Montessori School.
We are looking for parents/caregivers to join two committees that are an integral part of our school. We are looking for new members to join our Safety and Security Committee and our School Improvement Committee. These two committees regularly virtually on Zoom and in person at school.

A couple of reminders:
Please remember to have your car tag visible to staff when you are picking up students in the afternoon. If you arrive after 7:55 am you must park and escort your student(s) into the building and sign them in at the office window.
In case you missed a message we sent out yesterday our Director of Special Programs, Ms. Taryn is leaving Goodwater Montessori School to pursue another opportunity. Her last day was August 21, 2024.
We are immensely grateful for the contributions Ms. Taryn has made to enhance our Special Programs department. Her dedication and hard work have made a lasting impact on our school community. She has developed a team of professionals that will continue to provide the best environment for our special education students. We appreciate everything she has contributed to our school.
For any assistance related to special education services, please reach out to me at bruce.tabor@goodwatermontessori.org. We are actively searching for a new lead for the department and have an interim plan in place to ensure a smooth transition.
We wish Ms. Taryn all the best as she embarks on this new chapter in her career.
Thank you for being such an important part of our community. If you know of other families looking to make a change to Goodwater please encourage them to call the school for a tour of our facility and see all the great things happening at our school.
Kindest regards,
Dr. Bruce

Meet our New Counselor
My name is Raechel Van Horn and I am your 2024-2025 school year counseling student intern! I am working to obtain my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I received my bachelor’s degree in education from Oklahoma State University. Before this program, I spent 5 years teaching English and coaching (5th, 6th, 9th, 11th grade).
My experience working with children in elementary, middle, and high school settings fueled my passion to pursue counseling. I feel like my purpose in life is to love first and to support people however I can. I am so excited to have the opportunity to work here with like-minded individuals who want what is best for kids! I’m looking forward to getting to know you, this community, and all the beautiful kiddos we get to serve together. Contact: graduatecounselor@goodwatermontessori.org.
Group Work & Skills-based Counseling: I plan to research student referrals, coming from teachers and admin, to create small groups containing like-minded students who have similar needs. Once I have a grasp of the population’s areas of concern or biggest needs I will develop those focused groups. For example, last year, the groups were focused on social skills and peer relationship building. The 30-minute sessions revolved around learning, practicing, and applying social skills learned during their sessions.
Counseling Support: I will also be available to see students individually who are struggling with issues like anxiety, grief, depression, emotional regulation, adjustment, life transitions, etc. These will be 30-minute sessions focused on individualized goals, decreasing symptoms, and increasing the student’s overall well-being during the school day and in the outside world. I will plan to follow up with staff after accessing the information gathered from your referrals, input, and feedback! I am open to ideas and hearing directly from the school community as to what YOU see as valuable for your students here. I appreciate your time and consideration in helping me add to the existing support for students. Thank you!
Donations to Goodwater Montessori
Setting up a one-time or recurring online donation is the best way to support Goodwater Montessori. Charter schools in Texas receive significantly less funding than public schools. For more information on these topics, see how we are funded and the different giving options available for families to support our school.
