12th Annual Lavender Graduation
LGBTQ+ graduates and those who support them are invited to attend the 12th Annual Lavender Graduation at Georgia College!
Lavender Graduation 2023 will take place on April 28th from 4-6 p.m. Location will be messaged upon confirmation of registration.
Lavender Graduation serves to celebrate graduating LGBTQ+ students and allies for their strength and persistence in the face of adversity, as well as their achievements and contributions to the university. Participating students (undergraduate and graduate) will receive a certificate and lavender cords. They will also have the opportunity to personally thank an individual who has helped them through their college career.
The 2023 Lavender Graduation is for anyone graduating in 2023 - if you graduating at another point in 2023, please feel free to participate in this ceremony as we only have a Spring ceremony at this time. Additionally, if you are a graduate who is unable to attend the ceremony, please also feel free to register to get your lavender cords and be recognized for your achievements!

S.T.A.R. Ally
LGBTQ+ Programs has one remaining S.T.A.R. Ally training for the Spring 2023 semester on Friday, April 21, 2-5:30 p.m.
You can register online here: https://bit.ly/gcstarspring23
The S.T.A.R. Ally (Support, Teach, Affirm, Respect; GC's version of Safe Space) program advances one of Georgia College's guiding principles of "instilling respect for human diversity and individuality" by affirming people of all sexual and gender identities and lessening the prejudice that limits the university experience, and well-being of LGBTQ+ identified students, faculty, staff, facility members and administrators.
The overarching goals of S.T.A.R. Ally training are to increase participants' awareness and knowledge of LGBTQ+ people's identities and experiences and provide the skills to be an ally for the LGBTQ+ community at Georgia College and beyond.
Please note: these trainings will be held in-person and the training location will be communicated following registration. S.T.A.R. Ally training cannot be made mandatory training for any individual or group. If you are interested in having your organization or group trained, don't hesitate to contact the LGBTQ+ Programs Coordinator to discuss your needs.
Additionally, individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ are welcome and invited to attend S.T.A.R. Ally, however, some of the activities and content covered may be challenging for members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially those who have had negative experiences related to their identity previously. Please reach out to melissa.gerrior@gcsu.edu if you have further questions or concerns.
