PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Personal Mobile Device Policy
Dear MCHS Families,
Please see the important information below regarding our personal mobile device and social media policy.
This past June, the Minister of Education, the honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, imposed a ministerial order restricting the use of personal devices in Alberta classrooms. MCHS students will not be allowed to have their personal mobile devices in their classes unless they have a documented medical or safety condition. We are in this together and need your support to ensure that this policy is followed. Please read the GSACRD High School policy and consequences associated with non-compliance as well as the GSACRD Administrative Policy linked below.
The abbreviated version of MCHS' policy is as follows:
1 - Teachers will be assigning each student a number in the pouch.
2 - Students are to silence their phones and put them in the cell phone pockets as they enter their classrooms or they may choose to keep their device in their locker.
3 - On the first day of school, teachers will be going over the policy with their students. This will be their warning. The policy will be communicated during grade group assemblies as well.
4 - Students who are caught with their personal device in their classes will get an automatic 5 day loss of their device consequence. They will have to turn their device into the office each morning and pick at the end of each day. They will not have access to their phone during the school day for that period of time. Second offense will be 10 days. Further to that a parent meeting will be had and further consequences will be arranged. This also includes but is not limited to personal devices such as smartwatches, headphones (ex. AirPods), and tablets.
5 - Students are permitted their phones during class changes, spares, and lunch time. If we encounter social media, photograph/video issues, or other issues that are detrimental to the school culture this allowed usage may change.
Please read the more detailed document below this article for the GSACRD High School Policy and the Letter from the Minister of Education.

SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS
GSACRD Voice
Welcome back from what we here at GSACRD Voice hope was a great summer spent with family! As summer draws to a close, we find ourselves preparing for another exciting school year. For parents of teens, this transition can often come with a mix of emotions, especially as we consider our children's mental well-being during this time of change. It's natural for our teens to feel a range of emotions as they return to school—excitement, anticipation, but also anxiety. Check out the graphic below for some tips for supporting your teens return to school, or visit Big Life Journal to learn some powerful ways to manage back-to-school anxiety in children.

Beautiful Bits Of The Bible
2 Corinthians 6:4–5, 8b–10, NIV
Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger...through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
