May You Always Have Wildcat Pride
From The Principal's Desk
We are so close to the end of the year and there are many exciting events planned for the last few weeks of school. Our third graders will participate in the county-wide third grade day, the sixth graders will go to The Bizz Johnson Trail, the school will host the county-wide Chess Tournament, numerous field trips including the Zoo, the Park, Pizza factory, the movies and our 8th graders will take their end of the year trip! Whew... It's a lot! Students who have made their AR goal all year will get an AR Dance party on May 23rd, and we're so close to meeting the school-wide goal of reading 90 million words. It is looking very promising that I will be covered in silly string during the last week of school.
This school year has gone by so quickly and it has been my pleasure to watch all of our Wildcats grow and learn. I hope you have a wonderful summer with your family and friends.

On April 10th, our Janesville 4th grade students attended 4th Grade Day at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. This event was put on my LCOE. Students experienced a variety of activities including the rock identification lab, roping, learning about local brands, line dancing, California's history and so much more! Thank you LCOE for putting this on!
Earth Day
To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, students learned about the importance of taking care of our planet and then took action to make a difference! Big and Little Buddies teamed up for a campus clean-up. Mrs. Brown’s kindergarten class partnered with Mrs. Wood’s 5th grade class, and Mrs. Ehrlich’s K/TK combo class joined forces with Mrs. Malone’s 4th/5th combo class. Together, they picked up litter around the school and helped beautify the campus. It was a great day of learning, teamwork, and showing love for the Earth! 🌍💚

This Month's Focus: Online Safety
AVOID THE SUMMER SLIDE!
Each year kids lose, on average, one month of instructional knowledge over the summer break, but only 52% of parents are aware of this.* To mitigate this, we have developed and launched a new way to engage with students and families to get them invested in reading this summer with Home Base. From May 8th through September 11th, kids can visit the summer zone in Scholastic Home Base, a completely free digital destination which offers stories, characters, games, and a community of readers. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7. Kids will be able to track their summer reading by reading every day and maintaining a Reading Streak™ in Home Base.
The longer a child extends their Reading Streak™, the more digital experiences they earn! Kids can read any book of their choice and download and print a report of their reading progress at any time.
