Sunrise Family Updates
6.5.24
Hi Sunrise Families!
I hope this message finds you well! Tomorrow is the last day of the 2023-24 School Year! Thank you for a great year. I hope you have an amazing summer! A few important items about today:
- Our Picnic is from 12:00 - 12:45 p.m.
- When you come in, you will pick up your child from their classroom and then go through the lunch line for food.
- If you are bringing food in, you can go directly to the playground area to eat.
- There will be tables set up, but you are also welcome to bring chairs, blankets, etc.
- If it rains, we will eat in the cafeteria at tables or in your child's classroom.
- If you are a parent of a 5th grader, after the picnic, you are welcome to join us in the gym for our graduation ceremony which will begin at 1 p.m.
- As you come into the school, please look through the lost and found near the front office.
Finally, a reminder that any medications need to be picked up from our nurse's office by 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 6th.
Please enjoy the many updates below! I tried to include many links for you to help your child stay active and engaged over the summer. All of these newsletters are on our Sunrise webpage; you can always go back to reference this newsletter or any from this past year.
Thank you! I have truly enjoyed serving as your child's principal this year! Can't wait for next year!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal
IXL over the Summer!
Your child’s access to IXL Learning will remain active through the summer and we are encouraging all of our students to log in and take advantage of the IXL Study in the Sun challenge. IXL is an excellent resource to prepare for the upcoming school year. . Students should select the grade that they are going into.
If using a tablet, iPad, or smartphone:
Step 1: Download the ClassLink app.
Step 2: Search for Sturgeon Bay SD.
Step 3: Click “Sign In with Google” and sign in using your student’s school Google credentials.
Step 4: Navigate to the IXL icon and click.

Talent and Show!
The Talent Show and Show and Tell portion directly before it, was incredible this year! I am working on compiling a little video of it all, which I hope to complete over the summer to send out to you all. We have some amazing talent at Sunrise! Pretty cool to add live animals to the mix this year. Ms. Pfister did an awesome job coordinating it all!
Sunrise earned $80,000 from Destination Door County (Community Investment Fund)
This grant was the final push to raise the necessary funds to get the Sunrise playground started. A donor then stepped up for the last $15,000. In this photo are many of the students who fundraised for the playground at last summer's lemonade stands and members of our hardworking playground committee!
Battle of the Books (the lists are out!)
Enjoy reading some great books this summer in anticipation for next year's battle! I have included the middle school list for our 5th graders who are leaving our nest, as they battle at TJ Walker as well. Even if you choose not to compete, they always have a great selection of books:
There are also great events at the Door County Libraries all summer long (included a Summer Reading Program with prizes!) Here is the link to learn more.

We are blessed with an incredible staff and sadly we are saying good-bye to a few of them.
