Principal Message
Happy Thanksgiving !!
Wow! Can you believe it? We have made it to this point of the year when students are anticipating the winter break and preparing themselves for what to come. Quite honestly, we experience a mix of feelings at the middle school for many of our students during this time of year. if I can be honest, it is because many students struggle with what to anticipate while they’re at home during the Thanksgiving and winter break. As educators, we have found that there is a diversity of students within our school community and there’s also a diversity of experiences during the holidays. I encourage each of you to talk with and further communicate with your student during this time of the year when the holidays and the change of weather mixes, but sometimes it just doesn’t match.
As you communicate with your student, I would also like to encourage our students to find alternative ways to interact with their peers over the break. We are finding that students are not having healthy relationships with other students due in part to various modes of technology. Students are still trying to formulate their communication styles in person which can prevent a slight struggle when they are texting each other or messaging in group text or chats online. Additionally, students don’t always understand what is being said in the group chat or misinterpret it. This has a tendency to lead to strife and misunderstandings. Parents, please consider setting time limits to the amount of time that your student is on the phone. This helps to set safety and healthy boundaries while helping the student to focus on the importance of family, school, getting the proper rest and reaching their goals without the distraction or potential of what can take place within a group text.

Student Council Update
Student Council put on a spirit week consisting of different days. The most popular for staff was Staff and Student Swap Day (see picture). We were also full of war: Maple Wars where students in each grade wore a different Maple color, Age Wars where each grade dressed like a different age group (babies, etc.), Decade Wars where each grade dressed like a different time period, and Derby Wars where each team wore their team color. We will close out November with the "End of War" Day where we hope to see positive and thankful messages!
