RCPS Newsletter
May 5, 2025
Wonderful May has finally arrived along with warmer weather. Things are very busy here at RCPS with Education Week and Canadian Mental Health Week, upcoming Grade 3 and Grade 6 EQAO, School Wide Track and Field, field trips, Music Monday, just to name a few events.
Renovations in the school have continued and you will notice new doors in all vestibules and the library is coming along.
School staff would like to send out a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all families during this Education Week, for your ongoing support of us in your child's education. We remain committed to your child's academic success and well-being here at RCPS. "Parents play a vital role in education. When parents are engaged and involved, everyone – students, parents and families, teachers, schools, and communities – benefits, and our schools become increasingly rich and positive places to teach, learn, and grow." ( Parents in Partnership: A Parent Engagement Policy for Ontario Schools, Ministry of Education, 2010)
Today we recognize and honour National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit People. It’s also known as Red Dress Day. We wear red to draw attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two Spirit people and as a call for all Canadians to remember and to take action. You may also notice red dresses hanging in communities as a visual reminder. We recognize that this can be a challenging day for students and families, and strive to approach this day with support and sensitivity.
Please see the information below and check back for updates.
Thank you, Miigwech, Merci,
Mary Jane Corradetti
Principal, Roseneath Centennial P.S.
Parking Lot Thank You!
Since the melting of the snow, we are able to have more movement in the parking lot. Thank you for your efforts in remaining out of the busing area and crossing the parking lot with students where it is safe to do so. When we all work together for the safety of our students, drop off and dismissal run very smoothly.
Getting Ready for 2025-2026
- If eligible, have you registered your child for Year One kindergarten?
- Have you considered joining our School Council in September to support our school community?
- Have you opted into bussing on STSCO?
- We are a small school with few classes. If you have a class placement request, have you contacted the principal? While all requests may not be feasible given the small number of classrooms, we will do our best.
Attendance Matters - Help Us Support Positive Student Attendance
- At RCPS, we understand that mornings can be hectic! Get into the habit of laying out clothes and pack school bags and lunches the night before to increase opportunities for timely safe arrival at school.
- At RCPS, we understand that unexpected situations come up! To avoid these curve balls impacting your child’s attendance, develop backup plans to get to school. Children cannot learn if they are hungry. Ensure breakfast is incorporated in your family’s morning routine! Remember that we have a snack program your child can access and want to help!
- Children thrive on structure, predictability, and routine! Set a regular bedtime and morning routine and stick to it whenever possible!
- School absences and lates add up fast! Many families are not aware of how many days their child has missed. Consider keeping an up-todate calendar at home to track absences or contact your school to request this information!
- Celebrate great attendance at home! Communicate praise and acknowledgment for positive school engagement. Develop messaging at home around expectations of attendance to help cultivate a culture of school engagement. Example “Let’s always try to start our day at school and see how it goes”.
- Absences and late arrivals can affect the whole classroom. Let’s work together on improving our school’s attendance! Try to schedule non-urgent related medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session.
- We understand at RCPS your child may not want to come to school every day. Encourage your child to “try on” a positive mindset, by inviting your child to consider fun activities or other parts of school they enjoy. Your child can also experiment with developing a more balanced mindset of considering both positive and negative aspects about school.
- Students can fall behind in their academic, social and emotional learning if they are absent just one or two days every few weeks, including both excused and unexcused absences.
- If you are concerned about health issues that are preventing your child from attending school, please let us know so that we can ensure that they are not falling behind.
- Many children feel some nervousness about school at some point in their education career. If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, a counsellor, or other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
