FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
Get ready for a celebration like no other—our Annual Fall Festival, "Festival de Otoño," is just around the corner! Join us this Saturday from 1-5 PM for an unforgettable afternoon filled with joy, culture, and community spirit.
For over 30 years, this festival has been a cherished tradition at Edison, and this year promises to be just as special. We’ll celebrate the beauty of the Fall season with a vibrant Day of the Dead altar exhibit, showcasing stunning artwork and contributions from every classroom. Enjoy fun games and booths hosted by each classroom, savor delicious local food and drinks, and indulge in mouthwatering desserts—all proceeds supporting our amazing students!
But that’s not all! We’ll feature lively performances from local groups, each bringing their own Latin flair, and our creative parents will craft a breathtaking alfombra de acerrin. Most importantly, we’ll gather together—both past and present members of our community—for a day to remember.

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Halloween Parade
This Thursday, October 31st, we will have our annual Halloween Parade from 9-10 am. All students and staff are invited to parade around the field in costume to fun Halloween music while the school and parents watch. This is an optional event. Students who do not want to participate will have an alternate activity. If your child will not participate, let your child's teacher know.
For those that will participate see below for details:
- Students should arrive to school in costume and bring a change of clothes because they will change after the parade
- Costumes should allow students to walk freely and independently and include NO WEAPONS
- Parents who would like to attend can enter through the KANSAS AVENUE GATE starting at 8:45 am (NO PETS ALLOWED)
- Parents will stand on the outside of the grass on the cement track
- Students will gather in the middle of the grass with their class and will walk around the perimeter of the grass by grade levels for all to see.
Wednesday Parent Meetings - No Meeting this Wednesday
We have an extra Wednesday this month so we will not be having a meeting.
Next week will be Coffee with the Principal and Experts. Our expert will be Aileen Salmaggi, veteran immersion teacher of 28 years, former instructional coach, and Spanish reading teacher will present on "How to Support your Child's Reading Development at Home".
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming soon
Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place November 5th-8th. See below for details.
SCHEDULE
Be on the look out for a sign up sheet from your child's teacher - and make sure to sign up. Conferences usually last about 20 minutes. Please note that November 5th is a pupil free day so your child will not be attending school. Nov 6-8 will be minimum days to allow the teacher more time to meet with parents after school. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLANS FOR YOUR CHILD DURING THESE DAYS.
PREPARING FOR CONFERENCE
Keep in mind that the conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect with the teacher and form a TEAM for the benefit of your child. Remember that you and the teacher have the same goal - your child's success in school! Before coming to the conference, talk to your child about how school is going, look at their work and their scores, and write down any questions you have.
DURING THE CONFERENCE
Arrive on time! The schedule is very tight and the teacher will most likely not be able to extend your time if you are late. Students do not usually attend the conference. The teacher will begin the conference sharing information about how your child is doing at school. They may answer your questions. Once they finish sharing, you can ask any questions that were not answered or share information about your child that would be helpful for the teacher to know.
ENDING THE CONFERENCE
You and the teacher will make a plan for how to ensure your child is successful going forward. This may include continuing with everything you are currently doing because it is working well, or it may include some changes.
TALKING TO YOUR CHILD AFTER
When you go home to talk to your child, it is important to stay positive because we want your child to a have a positive attitude towards school and learning. First, share anything positive you can and then share one area of growth. Share the plan going forward and how you will be supporting them.
