Letter from your School Counselors
AES Parents,
In 2015, the Oregon legislature passed SB 856, also known as Erin’s Law. Erin’s Law requires the development and adoption of child sexual abuse prevention programs for K-12 students in all Oregon public schools. The curriculum used at Aumsville Elementary to meet SB 856 requirements is called “Safer, Smarter Kids”. This developmentally-appropriate abuse prevention curriculum will arm your child with the necessary skills to help avoid sexual abuse and access help if they are ever victimized.
These lessons will be taught by Mrs. Delamarter for students in grades K-2 and Mr.Nelson for students in grades 3-5. The first lesson will be taught the week of 04/08/24 with lessons concluding after 4-6 consecutive weeks. (# of lessons varies by grade level)
If you would like to opt your student out of these lessons for any reason, please notify their classroom teacher prior to 04/05/24.
Respectfully,
Andrew Nelson, School Counselor
Cindy Delamarter, Child Development Specialist

Read Every Day April Challenge “Leer Todos los Días” el desafío de abril
In April, grade alike classes will be competing to see who can read the most. The rules will remain the same for Read Every Day. You must read at least 15 minutes on 5 different days to count towards the goal. The class from each grade level who has the most students turn in a Read Every Day Reading Log, with at least 15 minutes of reading, on 5 different days will be selected to have a chip party. To increase the likelihood of winning, read every day, for 5 days in a row, for at least 15 minutes, and immediately turn in your reading log after finishing. Get a new log and new books and start the process
again for the whole month.
Good Luck to everyone and may the most dedicated readers win!
