A Note From Principal Frandsen

Dear families,

A huge "thank you" to our students who have done a great job this year demonstrating our S.E.A. values: Self direction, Effective communication, and Accountable citizen. We have many students who volunteer in a variety of ways and it all makes our school operate beautifully. Another important part of of our school is the partnership with our incredible and supportive families. We appreciate and value you in preparing your student for success in life.

Please check with your students on work completion and attendance. These things impact grades and ultimately learning. Please support your student in making it to school every day and with completing their assignments on time. School is not always easy, and sometimes it may not be fun, however, the goal is to earn a high school diploma and we are here to help our kids do exactly that. When things get hard, we are here to support you with a variety of resources including tutoring, counseling, and mentoring. If you need something, please let us know.

Weekly Construction Update

During the next two months, we should see progress in several areas including: the Ditmar house coming down, the retaining wall footing along the western perimeter of campus poured, the parking lot starting to emerge, and maybe even the big mountain of dirt decreasing. The next steps are now in motion with approval this week from SDG&E to move forward in several areas.

👻Surfside On Display - Advisory🎃

The mummy run brought the campus to a slow roll as students competed as representatives for their advisories. This was in concert with recognizing our honor roll and attendance champions. Way to go Sharks!

Welcome to November!

The next work due date is November 8, 2024. Work samples submitted should reflect a high caliber of work. P.E. logs must be turned for P.E. credit. For this Attendance month they should reflect workouts/exercise spanning October 11, 2024 - November 8, 2024. A great way to submit samples digitally is to use the Genius Scan App!

Please continue to monitor your student’s coursework on Edmentum, making sure they remain on pace while earning grades we can all be proud of. Remember, parents are the primary learning coaches for their child. Additional tutoring are available free of charge at the Public Library, and through Tutor.com.

Surfside Holiday Pop Up Shop

It’s that time of the year!!! We will be doing our annual Surfside pop-up shop in December. We are collecting gently used items. We will be accepting donations starting Monday October 14th - Monday December 2nd. We are also accepting makeup, perfumes, lotions, deodorants, toothpaste we just ask that all those items are new. Also collecting donations for our wrapping station. Gift bags, wrapping paper, tape, bows, etc.

New District Cell Phone Policy

"During the Day, Off and Away"

To create a focused learning environment and support student mental health, Oceanside Unified School District will now require all student cell phones to be off and stowed in backpacks upon entering campus and remain off until leaving. Exceptions are made for students with IEPs or 504 plans if specified for medical or anxiety-related needs, as determined by site administration. Classrooms have landlines for students to contact parents if needed, and students will have access to their phones during emergencies. The policy aims to reduce distractions, enhance engagement, and prevent cyberbullying, while also reducing the risk of phone theft or loss. Support and disciplinary actions for policy violations could include warnings, phone calls home, and phone confiscations, with increasing consequences for repeated offenses. OUSD is committed to student safety and mental health, fostering academic and emotional growth. For more details, refer to OUSD's Handbook.

As a reminder, OUSD provides Tutor.com for FREE to all students! Every OUSD student can access Tutor.com at no-cost with 1-to-1 online tutoring in English and Spanish. Students also have access to use drop-off writing review, self-paced test prep from The Princeton Review®, as well as other learning resources. Students can access Tutor.com 24hrs a day every day of the year, except Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
