June at Woodbrook
June 2024
Dear Woodbrook Families,
As promised, the last trimester is almost at an end and there are only a few weeks of school left!
Your children have grown so much this year and I would be remiss if I did not thank and recognize the incredible partnership we have between our families and our teachers here at Woodbrook. It is your support that allows our staff to do the incredible work that they do each and everyday and it shows in your beautiful children! Thank you!
We have been enjoying some of the super spring traditions here at Woodbrook. Our field day was a smashing success with no small thanks to our incredible PTO, all of the PTO parent volunteers, our tremendous custodial team and Mr. Pavolko and the PE team! Scroll down for the pictures and video taken that beautiful day!
It was heartwarming to see so many families come out for the family picnic! One parent expressed it best when she said, "The picnic is one of the special times I can guarantee my undivided attention on my children without worrying about schedules or anything else!" I hope you were able to enjoy the special time with your beautiful children. Please enjoy the slideshow by clicking on the link in the newsletter.
The children enjoyed laughing and munching popcorn with friends on movie night. Thank you to Ms. Tunnell and Ms. Devlin for putting it all together. Thank you to our NHS volunteers from JPS for all their help!
Each grade has enjoyed (or will soon enjoy) their grade level trip. Thank you to our PTO for subsidizing these trips and providing our children with these educational and social activities outside of our campus! Thank you to the parents for chaperoning these trips!
We look forward to our Kindergarten Parents' Day Tea on Thursday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the gym
and our First Grade Flag Day performance on Friday, June 14 at 9:15 a.m. Stay tuned for pictures to be uploaded below after the wonderful events!
Our year will wind down with our final PBSIS celebration on Thursday, June 13 (wear your BLUE Woodbrook T Shirts) and the BizWorld Bizarre. End of year class parties for grades K-4 will begin at 2 pm on June 14 and the last few days of school will be filled with our traditional balloon toss, fifth grade volleyball tournament and special treats.
Homeroom assignments will be visible in parent portal in late August and the school supply list will appear below in this newsletter (and on our Woodbrook Announcements page) after June 12.
Please be reminded...students are not permitted to have a smart watch or phone in school. If you need to contact your child, always call the main office. If you feel they must have the item, it must be OFF and AWAY throughout the day and on the bus.
We need some support from home with regard to dressing appropriately for school.
Please do not wear cropped tops or ripped jeans to school.
Please scroll down through the rest of the newsletter for details and even more information!

Thank you again for making Woodbrook the BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD!
I wish you all a happy and healthy summer!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cirillo

Community Advocacy Leaders
Our Community Advocacy Club presented their year's work to the public at Edison's Parent University in May. The club has learned and taught about food waste reduction, our carbon footprints and the impact we have had on the climate. Well done and thank you Mrs. Pzena, Mr. Selby and club members!
Congratulations!
Well Done Jillian Granelli!
The LEGO Group asked kids across the world to share their visions of how they would like to explore the cosmos. With the help of Associate Master Builder at the LEGO House, Didac Perez Soriano, a selection of these spacecrafts were reimagined in LEGO bricks.
The LEGO Group then showcased the future of space travel according to a group of young budding space explorers from across the globe. Our own 2nd grade student, Jillian Granelli was one of the participants chosen to have her unique design, playfully coined Unidentified Playing Objects (UPOs), blasted over the New York City skyline.
Gatik Beohar Teaches about True & Selfless Friendship
Gatik Beohar and his team earned 2nd place in the 22nd Annual Cultural Festival organized by Hindi USA Drama Competition. The competition was attended by participants from all along the east coast. The festival was designed to enhance leadership skills in young people and help children stay connected to their cultural roots.
Gatik's play was based on ancient Indian Epic "Ramayana" and delivered a message of "True and Selfless Friendship" to the new generation. His team was chosen on the quality of the content , team coordination and effortless dialogue skills.
Gatik attributes his "never give up attitude" to Woodbrook and his parents!
Well done Gatik!
Avipsa Chowdhury Takes the Gold!
Congratulations Avipsa Chowdhury!
Avipsa participated in the USA Roller Skate (USARS) 2024 Ohio Cup Roller skate in the category Juv/Elem C Free Skating. Avipsa moved up from 3rd place in the elimination round, and then secured the Gold in the final round!
AMAZING TALENT AVIPSA!
Well Done Fifth Grade Band!
The JPS Fifth Grade Band students performed beautifully at the JPS Band Ceremony on May 29th under the direction of Band Teacher Mrs. Amy Buckelew. It was an especially poignant evening given the sudden loss of Edison's beloved mentor and band director, Mr. Andrew S. DeNicola who lovingly served the district, the children and families of Edison for over 50 years.
Well done Fifth Grade Band!
A Note to Bicyclists
Please be extra careful when riding down the path or around other walkers. We want everyone to stay safe. Please slow down and, if necessary, walk your bike when you are near pedestrians.
Thank you!

Dress for School
Please discourage your child from wearing the following to school:
- Ripped clothing (including jeans)
- Tops or bottoms that reveal underwear or "private parts" (including while bending over or sitting down.)
- Tops which do not completely cover the stomach (no crop tops/short tops)
- Hats (except for religious reasons)
- No flip flops or slides or high platform/heels - all shoes must have "backs/back straps" to remain on feet for safety reasons.
ARRIVAL IN THE STOP & DROP LOT
Hooray! We have a new path at Woodbrook connecting the sidewalk to walking path.
No one needs to (or should) cross the stop & drop lot again while walking to or from school!
Thanks to our Board of Education for funding this improvement!
MORNING STOP & DROP RULES Proceed around the barricades/cones in the lot by the playground. Follow all of the traffic in front of you. Do not drop off at the garbage bins or grass in front of the playground. You may drop off by the PAVED part of the curve, but be sure your car is BEHIND (not next to) the vehicle in front of you, as sometimes cars pull up next to vehicles in that space. Pull up as far as you can by the straight sidewalk and drop off at the sidewalk. Parents may not step out of their cars to open car doors at drop off. Students must be able to open the car door & step out independently onto the sidewalk side of the lot in order to use the stop & drop lot. UNLOCK CHILD SAFETY LOCKS. Children may NEVER exit on the driver side of the car. DO NOT PULL AWAY UNTIL YOUR CHILD IS SAFELY ON THE SIDEWALK. WATCH THEM get on the sidewalk! If your child can not independently leave the car, please park on Robin Road and walk your child to his/her entrance. No passing other cars in line. DO NOT PARK OR PULL UP AROUND THE FRONT CIRCLE. This is restricted to BUS drop off only.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
I hope you all join the PTO by paying your dues (the PTO website will open up in a few weeks).
All of the money goes directly to benefit the children and the school.
We always need volunteers for all activities! This is a wonderful opportunity to support the school, get to know other parents and families and see your children and their friends during the special activities!
