Mascoma District Update
🎄 🎄 DECEMBER 2024 🎄 🎄
Superintendent's Message
Mascoma Valley Regional School District Community:
Thank you to all the organizations that supported our boxed food drive for November. Mrs. Doody, National Honor Society Advisor, provided this update:
The National Honor Society collected more than 850 pounds of food for our Thanksgiving Food Drive! All four of our schools competed in a food drive and Canaan Elementary School was the overall winner with Enfield Village School coming in as the runner up. Students at the elementary schools have won a basketball recess with the high school NHS members and Mrs. Prince, CES principal, will be dressing up as a turkey to celebrate the generous spirit of her students and their families. In addition to the food collected at our schools, Friends Feeding Friends provided many food items and distributed food gift cards so that families could purchase a turkey at a local grocery store. With the generous support of our community the NHS was able to pack more than 45 food boxes to support families in our district over the holiday. Each family received approximately 70 pounds of food. This will provide several days of meals and all the traditional Thanksgiving items from cranberry sauce and stuffing, to gravy and pumpkin pie fixings. The food pantry was able to stock 158 pounds of food from the food drive as well. The NHS is so proud of our community and knows that Mascoma makes a difference.
Thank you again to everyone who supported this endeavor and congratulations to Canaan Elementary School for winning the food drive!
Another congratulations goes out to the Enfield Village School who for the second consecutive year, has been recognized as one of the top elementary schools in the state by U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News ranks schools based on performance on state-required tests, graduation rates, and how well students are prepared for high school. Elementary, middle, and high schools are recognized if their overall score is in the top 40 percent. EVS has had a strong focus on early literacy, ensuring all students can develop vocabulary and reading comprehension skills to support future success. Students take part in developing these skills through a 30-minute WIN (What I Need) reading block. Staff also participates in ongoing professional learning in LETRs (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) developing their knowledge in the Science of Reading. All the hard work by students and staff has certainly paid off.
Snow season is here. As a reminder, the Mascoma School District will send out information regarding delays and cancellations through a phone call and email system as well as broadcast on WMUR and local radio stations. This system is the same as last year. If you have any questions or concerns about receiving these notifications, please check in with your child’s school. Snow day cancellations will be limited to two this year, after that, remote snow days will be called. This will allow school to be completed before the last week of June.
Wishing you all a peaceful holiday season ~
