Who Was Alexander Hamilton?
Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1757 in Charlestown the capital of an island in Nevis. Hamilton's mother died from a serve fever and left him an orphan. By the time he was a little older he wrote an essay that impressed community leaders and the sent him to college in Boston. After he got an education he joined the military. He then fought in the Revolutionary War and impressed George Washington with his smarts. He then became one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and he also was the 1st Secretary of the Treasury.
Constitutional Convention
Hamilton Influenced the Constitutional Convention because along with James Madison he had to create a new government instead of fixing the old one. The Constitutional Convention happened to address problems in the government of the United States with had been operating under the Articles of Confederation following independence from Great Britain.
Federalist Papers
Alexander had and impact on the Federalist Papers because he wrote some of the 85 articles along with James Madison and John Jay promoting the ratification of the United States Constitution. Hamilton wrote 51 articles Madison wrote 26 and Jay wrote 5 so Alexander had a big part in these papers.
U.S. Mint
In 1791, Hamilton effected the money currency by sending a report on the establishment of of a U.S. Mint to the House of Representatives. He proposed the mint would be the easiest way to introduce a national currency. Hamilton wanted the currency to be in decimals rather than in eights like the spanish mint. Hamilton liked the small value coins like the silver 10 cent, copper and half cent pieces for the living poor. By 1792, his ideas were taken by the Congress
How Did Hamilton Effect his Children?
Hamilton effected his sons ( John Church Hamilton) life because after his work from being a historian and a lawyer he devoted his life writing about his father and sorting through letters. John wrote " The Life of Alexander Hamilton " and a seven volume " History of the republic of the United States of America"
Jay's Treaty
The Jay's Treaty was written by Alexander Hamilton and John Jay to try and create peace with the British and it ended up stopping the Revolutionary War.
