Baseball Fun at Brownell
On Tuesday, April 30th several Brownell students participated in singing the National Anthem at a Detroit Tigers game. Congratulations to all the Brownell students who participated in this memorable event at Comerica Park.
Lady Blue Devil Mentoring at South
On April 30, South's Lady Blue Devil Mentoring group received sage advice from Grosse Pointe Farms' Lieutenant Vincent Finn and Detective Jon Ross. The ladies practiced practical self defense tactics while the officers stressed the importance of being aware and in groups at night. It's important to keep aware, vigilant and not have your head in the phone. Many of the young ladies were returning participants from last year's session citing they felt it's important to know how to defend themselves, especially before going away for college.
Pen Pal Fun
English Learners across the district, grades K-4th, met after school to meet their Pen Pals. The students enjoyed tie-dying t-shirts, decorating pots and planting flowers. Fun was had by all!
DECA at GP
Seven DECA students from North traveled with DECA adviser Brian Levinson to Anaheim, California for the International Competition. Our students worked hard and experienced many once in a lifetime moments. Thank you also to business teacher Scott Sowers who also supported our students.
Paul Kaminski and Cedar Rihani represented South at the DECA ICDC (International Career Development Conference) in Anaheim, CA from April 26 through May 1. Paul competed in the Retail Merchandising event while Cedar competed in the Principles of Business Administration and Management event. This was Paul’s second time making it to ICDC and Cedar’s first year as a DECA member and first time attending ICDC. Even though they did not place, South is proud of them for giving it their best!
Brownell visits Henry Ford Museum & Ford Rouge Factory Tour
On April 10, Brownell sixth graders took a field trip to the Henry Ford Museum & Ford Rouge Factory Tour.
Bring Your Child to Work Day at South

Athletics
Middle School Swim Championship Meet
Middle School swim season concluded with the Championship meet on May 1st. During the season 5th-8th grade students from Brownell, Parcells, and Pierce competed in three meets, two duel meets and the final championship meet with all three middle schools participating. After the final meet all three teams joined together to enjoy a pizza party sponsored by a community swim club, thanks Gators.
A TON of records were broken throughout the season. Our well experienced swimmers were showcased, and we also had many kids for whom this was their first competitive experience. Additionally, many of our special education swimmers were able to participate with their peers. Also, all three middle schools had great help from our high school swimmers (and at least one volleyball player) who previously participated in the program. Many of them had their first experience coaching our young athletes. They did a great job helping many of our less experienced swimmers. THIS is truly “One GP” and shows the best our program has to offer!

Performing Arts
Parcells Middle School
At State MSBOA Festival this past weekend, our students represented the Orchestra and Parcells Middle School with excitement, high energy, and focus. Earning a perfect 1st division rating (straight 1s from all three adjudicators) is rare and something to be celebrated!
Join them on Wednesday, May 22, for their Spring Concert, celebrating all of our 5-8th grade band & orchestra students. Band begins at 6 PM and Orchestra begins at 7:30 PM.
We wish Parcells 7th and 8th grade band/choir/orchestra good luck as they travel to Chicago on May 9-10.
