Dear FJVD Families,

Recently, I have been reflecting upon the beauty of our school campus - the fresh flowers around the Blessed Mother, the changing color of the leaves, and the joy and excitement of students and staff alike create the perfect backdrop for teaching and learning. How blessed we are to be back on campus to experience this beautiful New England Fall together.

I want to thank each of you for your continued attention and adherence to our safety protocols and procedures. Together, we can all work to keep our community safe and healthy. As you can read below, we have some adjustments to our screening tool as well as additional guidance regarding travel, particularly over Thanksgiving break. In addition, please do your best to continue to adhere to the following arrival times:

• Grades K, 4, and 6: Suggested arrival time 7:40am-7:50am
• Grades PK, 1, 3 and 7: Suggested arrival time 7:50am-8:00am
• Grades 2, 5, and 8: Suggested arrival time 8:00am-8:10am

Please read on below for more information about the weeks ahead!

• Thank you to our PTO who has been hard at work planning the Walkathon! This year, we're grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community as part of the Walkathon. After completing their walk, students across the grade levels will be participating in a service project for our military, police and emergency responders.
• We are also incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community which has raised over $5,500 for our Walkathon so far!
• A reminder that Anython.com accounts will close at the end of the day on Monday, October 26th, so be sure to get your final donations in!
• Finally, please note that the total funds raised displayed through Anython.com/fjvdwalks does not account for donations made in cash or check to the school.

As communicated via email to families yesterday, travel to high-spread communities is becoming an increasing concern noted by the Governor and Department of Health. With this in mind, we have adjusted our screening tool questions and ask families to consider the impact travel over the Thanksgiving break may have on their child's ability to return to in-person learning. See below for more information:

Change to Final Question of Screening Tool

The final question of the screening tool has been updated to reflect current language from the Rhode Island Department of Health. The final question of the screening now reads as follows:

"Has your student traveled outside of Rhode Island to a state with a high community spread rate (see list maintained by the Rhode Island Department of Health) within the past fourteen days?"

If your child has traveled to a state with a high community spread rate according to the list maintained by RIDOH, they must follow RIDOH travel guidance found here https://health.ri.gov/covid/travel/ and detailed below. The list of states maintained by RIDOH changes regularly, so please check frequently if you are planning to travel.

If you are a Rhode Island resident who has been in one of these states with a COVID-19 positivity rate higher than 5%, you must quarantine for 14 days and self-monitor for symptoms.

• As an exception, you may provide proof of a negative test for COVID-19 that was taken within the 72 hours prior to arrival in Rhode Island. Quarantining for 14 days is always preferred over relying on a negative test result as quarantining is the best way to limit the possibility of spreading COVID-19.
• If you are a returning Rhode Island resident, you can self-schedule an asymptomatic test at a community-based testing location listed below or through portal.ri.gov. Returning residents who schedule an appointment through portal.ri.gov will not be billed for asymptomatic testing.
• It might take several days to receive test results. You must quarantine while waiting for a negative test result.
• If you receive a test during your quarantine in Rhode Island and get a negative result, you can stop quarantining. However, you still need to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days, wear a mask any time you’re near people who don’t live with you, and follow physical distancing guidelines.
• If you return to Rhode Island and begin to experience symptoms of COVID-19, contact your primary care provider or a Respiratory Clinic to schedule a test.

Please note that these travel procedures set forth by the Department of Health also apply to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday. If your family is planning to travel during this time, please consider how this travel may impact your child's ability to return to school at the conclusion of Thanksgiving break.

If you have questions or concerns regarding RIDOH travel procedures and how they may or may not impact your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your continued adherence to these and all of our safety guidelines and procedures. Together, we can work to keep our community safe and healthy in the weeks ahead.

Students are encouraged to wear layers and warm clothing as the weather turns colder. We will continue to hold snack, recess, lunch, and physical education outdoors whenever possible. With this in mind, please ensure your child is dressed for the elements. It's not too late to order a few pieces of cold-weather Spirit Wear through our SquadLocker Store!

The Department of Health has released additional resources for families regarding how to proceed if your child has symptoms at home or becomes ill at school. You can find the RIDOH Resources for Families here. Please note, if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that indicate a probable case, please call 844-857-1814 from 7:30am-9:30pm seven days a week schedule a test through the K-12 Testing Network. You should also notify the school as soon as possible.

If your child is experiencing symptoms and is being tested, two tests will be conducted at the K-12 testing site - a rapid test with results within 24 hours, and a PCR test with results within 48 hours. Please note, students are not permitted to return to school until both tests are negative and symptoms have resolved. In addition, families must complete the After Illness Return Attestation Form which can also be found on the homepage of our school website under "Important Links."

Bottle Cap Drive

We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.

All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
