We are super excited about celebrating your student’s academic achievements as we close the school year. Your student is moving onto the next grade level; CONGRATULATIONS!

We look forward to celebrating our 8th graders at the 2023 promotion ceremony Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 9 am. Please read the promotion guide to learn about all of the details. https://bit.ly/3pDiNH4

Graduation gowns will be given on June 14th. We encourage students to borrow the gowns so they may be recycled for multiple years. Gowns will be returned at the conclusion of the promotion ceremony. However, gowns are available for purchase for $20.00 (cash only and exact amount). You may purchase a tassel for $7 or both gown and tassel for $27. Students were given envelopes to be turned in to the office during nutrition, lunch, and/or after school. Be sure to label your envelope. Encourage your 8th grader to come to school daily, follow school rules, and complete all assignments.

The students that are not participating in the promotion celebration, will be in a classroom with a teacher working on missing assignments during promotion ceremony practices scheduled on June 13 and June 14.

This week, June 5 - 9 is a regular schedule, except Friday, June 9, 2023, a minimum day, 2:15 pm dismissal.

The Ventura County Farmworker Resource Program is in the process of conducting a study/survey to understand the housing needs of the farmworker population in Ventura County. The Ventura County Farmworkers staff team is requesting your assistance. There is assistance for families to help with the completion of the survey.

Oxnard College will provide adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for families next Spring, 2024.

Here is some preliminary information; more details to come after November 2023.

Oxnard College ESL Classes:
ESL classes start January 22, 2024 (Spring Semester)
Class times 6:00-7:00 PM
Classes on Mondays and Wednesdays
Classes will likely occur at Blackstock unless there is an large number of community members who live near a different HESD campus.
Orientation and registrations will be held in late November/early December 2023
A second round of registrations in early January 2024

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We hope your student has enjoyed participating in the SHINE Enrichment Classes offered this school year. If your student is interested in participating next school year, a SHINE Enrichment Packet for 2023-24 is available in the school office.

The SHINE Expanded Learning Day Program for next year is a full day program from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. and enrichment classes will be offered. Attendance for this program is based on the needs of each student and family, which means students may leave prior to the 6:00 p.m. dismissal time.

Reminder to Parents:

The health office is a busy place. We have seen an increase in students coming to the health office that appear to be using the COVID protocols as a way to get out of class. Please talk with your student about not coming to the health office unless they are genuinely not feeling well. Also, COVID is still present and we are following the current Ventura County Public Health guidelines so please have a plan for who can pick up your student in case your student is sent home sick. Any COVID symptoms still require a negative COVID test result for the student to return to school. We want students in class as much as possible while looking out for your students' health and safety. Thank you for your help.

On June 30, 2022, The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued the COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for K–12 Schools to Support Safe In-Person Learning, 2022–2023 School Year.

As a reminder, at no time is it acceptable to send students to school when they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and especially if they have received a positive test result (laboratory based OR at-home test). Please make sure to report all positive cases to your students’ school.

Temperature Screening: Please screen your child at home each day for fever or symptoms and do not send your child to school if he/she is symptomatic or sick.

Students are to stay HOME if:

-If your student does not feel well, keep them home.

-If your student has any COVID-like symptoms, keep them home.

Home tests or antigen tests are now accepted

-Thank you for keeping our school community safe.

Students need to come to school in uniform every day to avoid a dress code violation. Please visit our school website for more information. Remind your student that chewing gum, cell phone use, and earphone use is not permitted while on campus.
