Dear Friends
April 19, 2022
Thank you Snohomish Lions Club!
In addition to the donation of Spot Vision Screeners for our district, the Snohomish Lions Club also:
- Provides every district 3rd grader with a new dictionary.
- Recently helped fund the new playground equipment and installation at Emerson Elementary.
- Recognizes district senior students at their annual Top Scholar Banquet.
- Annually funds $6,000 in scholarships to high school seniors.
- Conducts annual screenings of students for good vision. In partnership with Dr. Anup Deol at the Eyecare Center of Snohomish and the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of Snohomish County, they help schedule free eye exams and get needed eyeglasses to those in need of financial assistance living within the Snohomish School District boundaries.
- Helps defray most of the costs for a hearing exam and hearing aids needed to hear clearly for those in need of financial assistance living within the Snohomish School District boundaries. This is done in partnership with the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of Snohomish County.
Maintains several collection boxes at various Snohomish locations where people can drop off prescription eyeglasses, readers or hearing aids for recycling - Snohomish Senior Center (on fireplace hearth in foyer; Snohomish Boys & Girls Club (in foyer); Haggen Food and Pharmacy (in pharmacy area); Eyecare Center of Snohomish (Dr. Anup Deol’s office); Bartell Drugs (behind prescription desk - bring items in a clean bag); and Riverview Elementary, Centennial Middle School, Snohomish High School (main offices).

GPHS students headed to national debate tournament
Throughout the year, more than 6,000 students across the nation qualify for the chance to have their message heard in front of thousands. It all culminates in the National Speech & Debate Tournament. With 24 different competitive events, the National Tournament is the pinnacle of public speaking for speech and debate competitors from around the globe! Congrats!
The Sonic Squirrels head to world championships!
Over spring break the Glacier Peak High School and Snohomish High School robotics team, The Sonic Squirrels, competed at the Pacific Northwest Championships in Cheney. The top 50 teams from Washington, Oregon and Alaska competed in a three-day competition. After 12 rounds of round-robin style competition (where we were teamed with two random alliance partners for each round), The Sonic Squirrels team finished ranked 7th! They were then captain of the 6th alliance where they selected The Generals from Grant High School and Foundations High School in Portland and The Clover Bots from Clark County 4-H in Battle Ground as their alliance partners for the elimination rounds. The Sonic Squirrels were successful in making it out of the quarter finals but were defeated in the semifinals.
With their success last week, and at their other events this season, The Sonic Squirrels secured enough points to be one of 18 teams (out of 122 teams in the Pacific Northwest) to earn a spot at the world championships in Houston this week! There will be more than 400 teams from around the world (United States, Canada, Asia, Europe, South America, Central America and Australia) competing at the world championships. The Sonic Squirrels are proud to be representing Snohomish and the Pacific Northwest at this event.
Here is a link (https://youtu.be/WMTAzdX3kNk) to one of their quarter final matches (they start on the backside of the field and will be visible at about three seconds into match ... they are using blue bumpers for this match). The team is coached by Glacier Peak High School teacher Sean Wilson.
Cinderella - Glacier Peak High School
Are you ready for a little magic in your life? Come see the musical Cinderella presented by theatre students at Glacier Peak High School (7401 144th Place SE in Snohomish).
A bona fide fairy tale, told with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of grace, originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957, starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of television, drawing an astonishing 107 million viewers. Its recreation in 1965, starring Lesley Ann Warren, was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of “Dreams Come True,” and a second remake in 1997 set a new standard for representation and diversity in screen musicals, starring Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. This performance is rated PG.
Tickets for this amazing production are on sale now at www.showtix4u.com/event-details/57312. Adults are $15/each and students/senior citizens/military are $10/each. All tickets must be purchased online. Please select the performance date/time and seat at the time of purchase.
Cinderella premiered Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m. Other dates include Thursday, April 28; Fridays on April 22 and April 29; and Saturdays on April 16, April 23 and April 30. Showtimes are 7 p.m. with additional 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays.

Based loosely on the fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea,” this family-friendly musical has been delighting audiences for over 60 years!
Performances will be held May 6, May 7, May 13, May 14, May 20, and May 21 at Snohomish High School (1316 Fifth Street in Snohomish). School & district news
- Listserv - If you would like to receive district and school newsletters, or if you have a high school student who wants to receive the school Daily Bulletin, please subscribe to our listserv subscription tool. For directions on how to subscribe or change your subscription preferences (for those already signed up), please click here.
- Facebook - Today, 10,000 Facebook fans receive regular district updates through our district's Facebook page - www.facebook.com/snohomishschooldistrict. This site is just one of many ways we communicate with our students, staff, families and community. Although we are aware of other Facebook pages, please note that this is the only verified Facebook page of the Snohomish School District and is where official information is posted.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents and families to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and email addresses on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.
