Dear Students & Families,
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. A big thank you to everyone who works for Skico. What a great start to our season. Winter sports are underway, students are working hard, and our seniors are beginning to hear from colleges. We also have the AEF Flamingo this weekend. I want to extend a huge thank you to Cynthia Chase, Paul Sohn, and all of our generous sponsors. Aspen High School is so grateful to have such an incredibly supportive community. Lastly, please remember to show kindness to yourself and others as we enter this very busy season, and do not hesitate to reach out if you, or someone you know is struggling.
IB Spotlight
IB for All is a real thing at AHS. All of our students engage in IB DP level coursework. In IB Language & Literature students have been picking up on the nuances of language and discussing the differences between current, modern language and words and practices that have been “out of fashion” with the book Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Vocabulary and in-depth questions about purpose and meaning have been interesting topics of discussion in class. Students who should be recognized for their positive contributions are Folbe Butler and Alison Chaparro Meraz.
IB MYP Spotlight: 10th Grade Personal Project
Students will continue to work towards their learning and product goals, submit Criterion B, and bring their finished products to school on December 20th.
Once students return to school after winter break, they will reflect on their products and their process as they write Criterion C of their report. They are required to submit their report no later than January 16th.
The 10th-graders' hard work will be celebrated on February 12th when students present their projects and products at a Community Showcase in the Skier Dome. Parents and community members will be invited to attend.
Skier Spotlight
⭐AEF & The Flamingo
Thank you to our AEF student volunteers. These students have been out “flocking” and will be at the big event to help check-in guests; they will also assist with clean up and any other duties as needed. They are a big help!
Skier Spolight
⭐Aspen Mountain Guide School
Congratulations to Brent Maiolo’s Aspen Mountain Guide School students; they spent a day & night at the ASD Ruedi Cabin and earned their Wilderness First Aid certifications. Thank you to Haylen Gonzalez-Pita for chaperoning, too.
Skier Spolight
⭐Journalism
Congratulations to Hallie Zilberman & Quintess Frisch for winning a Best of SNO Award for their article on anti-semitism. Best of SNO honors the best high school and college writing in the country.
Lost and found
Please check our lost and found located by the weight room and reclaim your belongings BY DECEMBER 18th . We will donate all unclaimed items to the Aspen Thrift Store before Winter Break.
Students’ School Email Addresses
There is some confusion about receiving out of district emails on school issued Chromebooks. At AHS, students receive emails from any email address; it is not restricted.
Parents can email their students at their aspenk12 emails.
Please communicate with your students via email, not text, during school hours.
Mental Health Support
Please remember that the holiday season can be very difficult for some people. Please reach out if you or someone you know struggles at this time of year. You may call the Colorado Crisis Service 24/hr hotline at 1-844-493-8255 or Text “TALK” to 38255, or call the Aspen Hope Center Hopeline at 970-925-5858.

S1 Final Exams
Students are required to sit for their exams during the assigned periods; if students have a legitimate conflict, they must get approval from Sarah or Becky to take exams at an alternative time.
AVSC students must reach out to Sarah & Becky with their specific schedule if they are missing exams.
Illness and Attending school, sports, and activities
Students who stay home due to illness, may not attend sports practice or games.
Parents need to come get their sick student from school; no RFTA, no walking, no getting a ride with friends, etc.
If a senior is deemed well enough to operate their vehicle, and the parents give permission for them to drive themselves, then we can allow that. By well enough, they should not be dizzy, lightheaded, throwing up, etc.

Travel Opportunity!! Ecuador!!
Students, join Kate Korn & Cory Parker for an adventure! They are really excited to share that they are planning another EF tour trip next summer, 2025... to Ecuador!
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
There are limited spots on this trip. Contact Kate Korn at kkorn@aspenk12.net, to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Safe2Tell Update
Please use Safe2Tell to anonymously report any concerns! These reports go directly to law enforcement and school administration. Please be sure to say on the report so that the intake operator can ask more questions; there is no way for any of this information to be traced back to you!
