The Know-whats and Know-hows for Learning at EMS

Seven Academic Weeks of School Remain: Do you know how well your student is learning?
Do you know how well your student is learning and which specific learning standards your student must meet to be ready for their next level?
The video below demonstrates how to access PowerSchool and review your student's learning progress and status.
We will be using some of the core classroom instructional time, FLX class, and REID Days (5 remaining) to work alongside your student to support their learning. If you believe your student needs additional support, please contact your student's teachers.
SafeOregon
SafeOregon is a program created for Oregon students, parents, school staff, community members and law enforcement officers to report and respond to student safety threats (threats about self harm and threats directed at others).
The goal of SafeOregon is to prevent school safety threats from occurring by providing schools and communities with a relevant tool for reporting potential threats. Tips can be submitted in a variety of ways, including email, phone calls, text, our mobile app and our web portal.
All tips go immediately to a tip line technician 24×7. Tips are promptly analyzed and forwarded to designated personnel who can provide further assistance in resolving reported incidents. Click here to make a tip/report.
Social Media Posts: Please Speak With Your Student
The following are actions you can take to ensure your student is using social media applications safely:
- Ask for your student's phone and open Instagram (use the search feature on your student's phone to search "Instagram" because often times students hide social media accounts within folders). Open "TikTok," too.
- Review the accounts your student follows to ensure they follow your family's values, interests, boundaries.
- Review the posts your student has made as well as messages your student has received or sent.
- Speak with your student about the content they are following and posting.
If you notice inappropriate accounts, you can make a report to Instagram and TikTok. You can also reach out to our school (kelleyg@estacada.k12.or.us) or make a report via SafeOregon.
Student Experience at EMS Matters! Weekly Updated Data
1. Improve bathroom cleanliness (reducing the amount of paper towels and trash on the floor) by a) counting trash 2x each day; b) brightening the space, c) "sweeping" at the beginning of each class. We have purchased new inspirational posters for the bathroom with bright colors and we have purchased new trash bins for the bathroom. Review the data below! Trend is regressing.
2. Improve hallway transitions (reduce profane, discriminatory language and improve the pace at which students walk) by a) increasing adult supervision, b) recognizing what right looks like with PBIS points, and c) surveying students weekly. Review the data below! Trend is regressing.

PBIS Rewards Parent App: Now Open
We are responding to the lowest-rated indicator from feedback we received on Fall’s Parent Experience Survey: I receive positive phone calls, emails, or notes about my child from the school (3.34).

Our School's PBIS Framework for Student Safety and Success: Week 10 (Semester 2) Review
We want to communicate key data regarding our school's academic behaviors and focus on learning. Estacada Middle School follows the PBIS model. PBIS is a positive behavior approach to discipline and school rules and expectations. At EMS students are reinforced, with points, for modeling and demonstrating desired behavior. Students are then allowed to purchase items, rewards and are eligible for incentives based on their points from the school PBIS store.
We want you to know that school rules are enforced consistently depending on the context, the student's ability, and the progression of previous incidences for each student.
Last Week (Week 10 S2) PBIS data: 98.59% of our students were major and minor referral-free. For Semester 2, nearly 85% of all EMS students are major and minor referral-free. One behavior that we continue to see and ask parents to speak with their students about is the use of inappropriate/harmful language. If your student is hearing inappropriate language or discriminatory language we urge you to have your student reach out to the EMS administration to help resolve conflicts. See images above.
Last Week (Week 10 S2) Attendance data (See Below): An average of 89% of students attended school per day las tweek. Of our students in attendance 64% of EMS students were on time to all classes each day. As we continue to work with student about arriving on time to class with their materials, we continue to ask parents to talk with their students about the importance of being on time and prepared for class..
If your student is experiencing any unwanted behaviors from peers, encourage your student to come to the office and make a report to our Vice-Principal (kelleyg@estacada.k12.or.us). These reports allow our office team to problem-solve with students about unwanted behavior and limit conflicts at EMS.
