Volleyball Advances to District Championship Game
After beating Nixa in a riveting four-match game, Ozark Volleyball is taking on Kickapoo for the district championship and to advance in the tournament! The game is tonight 10/24 in Waynesville at 6:30 p.m.! If you can't be there in person be sure to watch the game on MSHAA TV
This week, OHS junior Colin Cook has been selected as an Athlete of the Week! Colin has been the starting center for Ozark football this season and is an important asset to the team on and off the field, according to Head Coach Jeremy Cordell.
"Colin is our starting center and one of our most consistent players in all areas," Cordell said. "Colin serves regularly at the elementary schools on Fridays greeting our future Tigers in the am drop-off. Colin has never missed a summer workout/practice, a fall practice, or a game. He is a great teammate and always puts others first! Not only is Colin our starting center, but he also carries a 4.0 GPA with an AP caliber schedule. He is the definition of 1-0 on and off the field!"
Congrats Colin!
This week, OHS junior Audrey Carlton has been selected as an Athlete of the Week! Audrey is a key player and leader on the Ozark softball team. According to Head Coach Jimmy Nimmo, Audrey broke three school records this year including in-season RBIs with 62, in-season homeruns with 18, and career RBIs with 116, she still has her senior season remaining.
"Audrey had a tremendous season," Nimmo said. "She was our staple in the outfield as our centerfielder. Audrey leads by example on and off the field. She definitely deserves this recognition."
Congrats Audrey!
This week, OHS sophomore Rowan Garner has been selected as Artist of the Week! Rowan is a key member of OHS's color guard team, helping the team win multiple competitions this fall, according to Head Coach Theresa Walls.
"Rowan has been a huge asset to our team this year," Walls said. "His performance helped contribute to the color guard's win at the Parkview competition to start our season. On the color guard, he performs both on the main rifle line and the main dance line. He has had tremendous growth, and is already stepping up as a leader at a young age. Rowan's positivity, work ethic, and dedication to our program are undeniable!"
Congrats Rowan!
This week OHS freshmen Sarah Fisherkeller and Sheldon Redd, as well as sophomore Kelton Whobrey are being honored as our Tigers of the Week! All three students are members of Ozark's FFA chapter and recently were the top sellers in FFA's annual fundraiser, according to FFA Sponsor Heath Wright.
"These students did an amazing job at selling our fundraiser products this year," Wright said. "We are so thankful for their dedication to the FFA, their hard work, and we can only imagine what a difference these students will make in our program in the years to come."
Sheldon was the top seller, with Sarah following close in second place and Kelton taking third place!
Congrats guys!
Meet Jeremy Sisco!
Meet Jeremy Sisco, one of Ozark's awesome FFA sponsors and fishing team sponsor. Sisco has been sponsoring these groups at Ozark since 2012 and he is a graduate of OHS. He went to Kansas State University where he was a part of the livestock judging team, and got to travel many parts of the country touring some of the largest ranches and livestock facilities. He teaches agriculture classes at OHS.
"Ozark has always been very supportive of students no matter what the sport or activity is," he said. "They proved that when they allowed us to compete at the first ever Missouri high school fishing tournament. There are all sorts of sports and activities for students to be a part of at Ozark, and the district supports all of these to ensure students have opportunities to pursue their interest and passions."
Get Your Tickets for "Grease"!
Ozark High School's fall theater performance is fast approaching! Get your tickets for "Grease" while you still can!
If you've never seen or heard of "Grease" here is a quick synopsis: It’s 1959, and Rydell High School’s senior class is in rare form. The too-cool-for-school “Burger Palace Boys” are stealing hub-caps and acting tough and their gum-snapping, chain-smoking “Pink Ladies” are looking hot in bobby sox and pedal pushers. The 1950s high school dream is about to explode in this rollicking musical that is both an homage to the idealism of the 50s and a satire of high schoolers’ age-old desire to be rebellious. At the heart of the story is the romance between hot-rodding gangster Danny Zuko and the sweet new girl in town, Sandy Dumbrowski. They had a secret romance in summer, but now back in the context of school, peer-pressure and cliques make their love a bit more complicated. Can Danny maintain his cool dude status and still make Sandy his girl? The whole gang sings and dances around Danny and Sandy’s romance, through such hit songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "We Go Together”, and “Mooning”, recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Starting off with an eight-year Broadway run, Grease is among the world’s most popular musicals and has a cult-like following, especially among youth & teens!
The cast and crew have been hard at work getting this show ready! Check out the theater department's Instagram to keep up to date with the progress of the show!
