False Social Media Accounts
We wanted you to be aware that we have noticed a rise in social media accounts created and followed by OPA MS students. These accounts utilize the OPA MS logo without our consent. As a school, we are committed to building community and teaching students to respect each other, respect staff, and communicate in more healthy ways.
As a reminder,
- Filming/photographing students or staff during class and on campus, especially those who aren't aware, is a violation of OPA Policy.
- Speaking unkindly publicly about others is against the Bullying Policy
- Misusing the school name, logo and references is fraud and misrepresentation and grounds for legal action.
- That false accounts and disrespectful posts do not fit with our school's values and culture.
- Law enforcement can track IP addresses, and we hope students do the right thing by taking these fake accounts down voluntarily.
I again thank you for your vigilance in keeping our students safe and welcome your continued engagement so we can work together to remind our students to choose healthier ways to express their emotions and work out their conflicts as well as constructively use social media.

Cell Phones and Earbuds
Our staff works hard to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment. Cell phones and earbuds/airpods are a huge distraction and safety concern. Students are required to have their cell phones turned off and put away during the school day. Earbuds and Airpods should remain in their backpacks unless a teacher allows them to use them for school work. Please remind your students to "unplug" once they walk onto campus. If they need to contact a parent/guardian during the day, they may go to the office and ask permission to use our phone or their phone. Students are not allowed to take photos/videos and post on social media during the school day.
The Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to you free of charge. Your right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, and whether you get a grade for the activity or class. Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public education means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms for any school activity, nor can we require you or your family to pay security deposits for access, participation, materials, or equipment. Under certain circumstances, students involved in extracurricular programs, clubs and/or sports may be required to attend fundraising events held by the program, sport or club just as you may be required to attend any other event put on by that program, club or sport. However, you will not be required to raise funds as a condition of participation.
