From the Principal's Desk...
Elmwood Families,
Spring has arrived, IAR testing is complete, and our students are continuing to work hard and finish the year strong. Please remember that daily attendance is important, as is being on time each day. Learning starts at 8:40, so please be sure you are dropping your child off with enough time to get to class.
We want to send a special thank you to our teachers and families who helped our students during state testing! We are proud to share the remarkable dedication our students have demonstrated during the recent IAR testing. The IAR serves as ONE tool to gauge our students' progress in meeting Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics. While these assessments provide insights into academic development, it's important to remember that they are just one of many measures of our students' abilities and growth. Our students also demonstrate their learning and growth in many other ways, and we are happy to be a part of ALL of their learning and successes!
Finally, there are so many events coming up- please take your time and check out all of them- and as always, please reach out if you have any questions!
Thank You,
Mr. Lerner & Mrs. Hagins

Book Fair
Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. A love of independent reading boosts academic success, plus children who read more frequently also report improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: Monday, April 14th - Thursday, April 17th
Location: Media Center
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/elmwoodelemschool
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called
Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books
from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Matt Lerner
