Many of us find ourselves moving too fast this time of year. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, it often feels like we’re in perpetual warp speed. Deadlines loom at school, work, and home. Special events fill up calendars.
In fact, it’s been so busy that you may have missed the wonderful recognition we all received just before Thanksgiving break. Each year the Nebraska Department of Education releases the Nebraska Education Profile, a deep dive into Nebraska’s public schools. Every district receives an overall rating. There are four categories: Excellent, Great, Good, and Needs Support to Improve.
I am proud to share that Millard Public Schools has received the highest rating - Excellent!
In sharing our rating, it’s worth noting that so much of the opportunity and excellence that defines our district does not even count as part of the state ranking system. In my opinion, it's these opportunities that make Millard truly exceptional. Here are some examples of what we do that are not reflected in our state ranking:
- 28 Advanced Placement Courses
- 5 Millard Career Academies
- 2 Core Knowledge Schools of Distinction
- 3 Montessori Programs
- The Kindergarten through 12th Grade International Baccalaureate Program
- Dual enrollment opportunities such as Early College
- The AP Capstone Program
- All of our activities and athletic programs
I am so grateful to all of Millard’s dedicated teachers and staff, our students, and you. The quality of our school district is a reflection of us all. Any recognition we receive is shared among all of our efforts.
If you find yourself spinning in this last week of school, I hope you can unwind over winter break. Please enjoy the time with family, friends, and especially your children. We will be here when it’s time to come back, and we will be ready to make the most of our gift - excellent schools in a wonderful community.
