Major in the Spotlight
Majoring in economics might be the right choice for students who may like to use analytical reasoning to study behavioral patterns, policy problems or business practices. Though students planning for a career in business may be inclined to study economics, the discipline can also be relevant to those interested in law, medicine, government and other paths. Ever find yourself thinking about how the world could run more efficiently? You may want to consider exploring a major in economics.
Career in the Spotlight
When businesses and government agencies need help making sophisticated decisions and solving complicated problems, they turn to statisticians. Statisticians analyze data and apply mathematical and statistical techniques to help solve problems.
Bachelor's and master's degrees are typical for statisticians, often in subjects such as mathematics, economics or computer science. They may specialize in fields like engineering or physics.
Demand for statisticians is expected to increase by 33.8 percent by 2026, adding 12,600 jobs

Prepare Early! FREE SAT/ACT Test Prep through Method Test Prep
Tom Ehlers, a Princeton University graduate and successful ACT and SAT tutor, has created a checklist of lessons and quizzes to help students prepare for the ACT and SAT. Students who complete the series of tasks improve their ACT score an average of 3 points and their SAT score an average of 110 points.
The Method Test Prep website is free for all Locust Valley students through Castle Learning.
Watch a video in this link to learn how to access your free test prep.
Each student has his or her own account and the course will keep track of all the work he or she has completed.
Students can listen to ACT and SAT lessons and each tutorial is accompanied by a quiz to test student mastery. Students can then watch video and/or listen to audio explanations and the program keeps track of a student’s strengths and weaknesses.
Students can work through the checklist from a phone or any other internet-connected device; the program is interactive and time efficient. By using technology, students are more engaged and their time is focused on areas in need of improvement.
Attention Student-Athletes!
By joining their free text service, students will receive periodic texts (no more than 2 per month) providing timely and relevant advice, reminders and tips covering NCAA and NAIA initial-eligibility and college recruiting.

Social Media Tips for College Applicants from Princeton Review
1. Watch the name
Whether it’s your email address or your Twitter handle, your username is your key identifier—keep it simple and professional.
2. Check your privacy settings
Monitor your privacy settings so that you know who can look you up, see your wall, tag you in pictures, and more. (There are a lot of options, so make sure you're thorough.) Even if you’re over Facebook, take a look at groups you might have joined way back when. Most are probably fine, but some may not give the best impression. A few clicks can remove them.
3. Curate your online photo libraries
A picture is worth a thousand words. So make sure you’re okay with what those words might be! Maybe "you had to be there,” but remember that the college admissions staff wasn’t. While you’re at it, check what photos your friends have tagged you in. Any sort of illegal or objectionable behavior deserves a delete!
4. Google yourself
Search for your name on Google—you might be surprised what shows up on the first few pages. Maybe you’ve made a comment on a blog that you’d rather not have show up, or a friend has tagged you in an unflattering photo. While you can’t always delete the results, you can be proactive about what you post online.
