It is hard to believe we are planning for the end of the 23-24 school year. Just a reminder, the last day of school is a half-day and we dismiss class at 10:35 on May 23rd. No lunches will be served on this day. We are so proud of our students and thankful for our staff who support us all everyday.
We want to let you know about some exciting events as we plan for the last few weeks at Jane Addams School:
At Jane Addams, we are planning for our Spring Open House this week on Thursday, April 25 from 5:30 - 6:30pm. We are also enjoying our grade level ABC countdown celebrations that have begun. While all events are optional, each are meant to bring a flavor of spring and celebration to our learning communities.
We are also planning our Spring Field Day activities for all students on Monday, May 20 with a possible rain date of Wednesday, May 22. Please send your child in gym shoes and outdoor play gear on this day. Students enjoy some friendly competition and a chance to enjoy an some extended time outside. As such, water bottles are appreciated. We would like to thank Mr. Walker for organizing the schedule and events and our staff for supporting students outside during these activities. An extra thank you for the JA PTO for contributing a special surprise.

Solar Eclipse
We had a scientific ball as we observed the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon moves between Earth and the Sun and blocks our view of the sun. In the Chicagoland area, we were able to view a partial eclipse of close to 93% on this perfect day of weather!
Our students enjoyed the time to observation and create special memories!
Attendance Matters
DID YOU KNOW?
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school. • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read. Satisfactory Attendance is missing 9 or less days a school year.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.
Before and After School Care for the 24.25 School Year
The Palatine Park District offers before- and after-school care for students who attend Jane Addams. Visit the Palatine Park District's C.A.R.E. Program for general information, pricing, enrollment, and FAQs.
Jane Addams will also offer after school programs through the Boys and Girls Club.
1,2,3 Andres are still making music at JA!
Andrés and Christina are the Latin Grammy-winning music duo 123 Andrés who visited D15 in March. Their catchy songs and lively concerts get the whole family dancing and learning, in Spanish and English. This summer we encourage you to listen to them and keep your students' love of learning and singing growing all through our extended summer.
