From the Principal's Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families:
As we move into November, I am excited to embrace the changes that come with the season and reflect on the growth we’ve already seen in our students. The cooler weather is certainly a reminder of how quickly the year is passing, but it also brings an opportunity to celebrate the growth we’ve seen in our students both inside and outside the classroom.
Our parent-teacher conferences give us a chance to talk about the wonderful progress your child has made so far this year. Whether it's academic skills, social-emotional growth or personal achievements, it has been inspiring to see how much each child has blossomed. The months ahead will bring even more learning and I am excited to continue working together to support your child's development.
As part of our focus on growth, we’re also highlighting the importance of kindness during World Kindness Week. This week is a great time for our students to practice being kind to one another, both in the classroom and in their daily interactions. Students are reading stories about kindness and helping to create a kindness chain—a visual reminder of the positive actions happening in our school community. I encourage you to talk with your child about kindness at home, too, and share ideas about how your family can spread kindness in your neighborhood.
With the arrival of cooler days, please make sure your child is dressed warmly for outdoor play. Layers are key—please send your child to school with a jacket, hat, and gloves so they can comfortably enjoy recess and outdoor activities. We go outside when the wind chill is 15 degrees or higher.
I am grateful for your ongoing partnership in your child’s education and the opportunity to work together to foster a kind and supportive school environment.
Have a wonderful rest of the week and weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Park Clinic Corner
PSA: Girl's pants needed (all sizes) like leggings would be awesome!
We are seeing an increase in pneumonia this school year (and you may have been hearing about this in the media, as well.) The clinic's goal in the school setting is to keep kids in school, but also to mitigate/manage illness when illnesses do arise. Here are some helpful tips regarding pneumonia management when it comes to your school-age child. Please call the clinic to speak with Mrs. Park or Mrs. Kolenich if you have any specific questions and thank you for reading this helpful information.
If a child has pneumonia, you should call the school or childcare provider and keep them home until they are well enough to participate in school activities. A child should stay home until they meet the following criteria:
They no longer have a fever for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medicine
They are eating and drinking well
They feel up to going to school
Some symptoms of pneumonia include: Coughing, Fever and chills, Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing, Feeling very tired, and Chest pain.
The length of time a child should stay home depends on the type of pneumonia:
Bacterial pneumonia
A child is contagious for about 48 hours after starting antibiotics and their fever goes away.
Viral pneumonia
A child is contagious as symptoms start to go away, especially fever. The contagious period is commonly 7-10 days.
Fungal pneumonia
Fungal infections are not contagious and are not spread from person to person.
To prevent the spread of disease, you should:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
- Avoid contact with people who are showing signs of illness
- Keep drinking glasses and eating utensils separate from other family members

We have had many students showing up bringing cough drops to drop off in the clinic. Please remember, while it is very helpful to have cough drops kept in the clinic for your child, you must fill out an over the counter order form for these and they need to be delivered by the parent to school. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
