Welcome Back Washburn!
Greetings Washburn Families,
July flew by and somehow it is already nearing the end of August! The beginning of the school year is right around the corner and I could not be more excited to support your child’s educational journey here at Washburn for the ‘24-25 school year. Our staff at Washburn focuses on a rigorous academic program that includes supporting students in learning school wide expectations through Positive Behavior Systems, fostering strong classroom communities that allow all students to feel safe and a sense of belonging, and as a result allow students to take risks in order to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Family communication was sent home last week regarding your child’s class placement for the school year. The ability to sign up for our school wide communication platform Remind will be provided by your child's teacher at Open House. Communication is a priority for us at Washburn. We believe the best way to support your child is to collaborate by celebrating successes and problem solving challenges- you know your child best!
Speaking of your child's teacher - we are thrilled to welcome many new staff members into our Washburn Family this year:
- Taylor Leach - 3rd Grade Teacher
- Nicole Russell - 3rd Grade Teacher
- Kristalyn Phipps - 5th Grade Teacher
- Madison Lenfest - 4th Grade Teacher
- Chantel Ouellette - Pre-K Ed Tech
- Shawna Haley-Bear - Librarian
Each of our new staff members is ecstatic to support your child as they embark on a new year of learning and exploration.
For families who may be new to our school please note that arrival begins at 8:00 am and students are dismissed at 3:00 pm. Students may only enter through the front of the building however at dismissal k-4 students will exit by the back gate, where 5th & 6th grade students will exit through the front door to the left of the main entrance. We ask families who are picking up or dropping off their child to park in the designated loop past the larger bus loop and speed bump. This ensures swift movement of traffic at these busy times of day.
We open the doors to students and families on Tuesday, August 27th from 4:30-6:00 pm for our back to school Open House. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to meet their teacher and see their new classroom space. I hope to see you all there! Support staff will be available as well and we will celebrate the kickoff of the school year with popsicles on the playground immediately following your visit.
Please know that you do not have to purchase back to school supplies as the school will provide everything your child needs to be academically successful.
I hope you have all had a spectacular summer. We will see all of our Washburn Lions on the first day of school on Wednesday, August 28th. Students may arrive no earlier than 8:00 am.
See you soon!

How We Keep Students Safe
Safety is our first priority. This is why we have high expectations for student behaviors. It is why we train to evacuate and we train for intruders. Every staff member has multiple ways to access administration and are capable of making emergency calls as needed.
All the doors are locked all the time, external and internal
There are hard wired phones in each room
Cameras that are observed
Secure front entrance
Badged staff
Practice safety measures
We do not have unannounced visitors
Staff have multiple communication devices to contact others for immediate assistance
What's for Lunch?
Health and Wellness Policy
We will continue to focus on health and wellness and follow the Student Wellness Policy (NEPN/NSBA Code: JL). We kindly ask that any food brought in for celebrations and birthdays follow the USDA Smart Snack Standards. Please save cupcakes and other sweet snacks for out of school parties.
