True Confessions of a Connected (Math) Teacher a Hit!
Amidst the hustle and bustle throughout the school year, making connections with other educators can be challenging but one of the most important things a teacher can do to grow professionally.
Connected educator Mark James came to Liberty High School on February 24th to share how he has made connections through Twitter to inspire and help him through the challenges he faces in the classroom environment.
Read a review of the event here.
Many attendees were interested in how to get connected like Mark. Here are some upcoming BFLEX opportunities that will help you get connected:
- On March 1 (Liberty High School Library) and 2 (Freedom High School Library) I will be hosting Growing Professionally with Twitter BFLEX workshops from 3-5PM. These can be completed online (at your own pace) as well.
- On March 7, we will begin a 15 Day Twitter Challenge (including our own #BASDChallenge Twitter Chat)! 4 hours of BFLEX credit can be earned during this event. All are welcome and you do not have to complete each day to participate. However, if you do, you will earn recognition AND a chance to win a cool prize!
- On March 8, we will have our first Connected Educator Book Club Meeting at Liberty High School Library from 3:30-4:40PM. Our first book will be Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach's The Connected Educator: Learning and Leading in a Digital Age. We'll set the parameters for the club and the first 8 lucky people will get a book on loan to use during the book club.

Issue Voice Commands in Google Docs
Until now, it was tough to take these types of actions using only your voice. With the new Voice Commands in Google Docs, you can pause, issue a command, pause again, and resume dictating. To see a list of all commands, check out this Help Center article or say “voice commands help” when you’re voice typing. Please note that Voice commands work in English only. See it in action in the video below!
Formative Assessment Tool - Socrative
Are you interested in getting quick formative feedback to help you and your students know where they are at with their learning?
There are numerous online formative assessment tools currently in use in the BASD. I spent some time in Mike Gori's classroom at Liberty this year learning how he uses Socrative. Read how it has helped him AND his students this year here.
