Last Sunday's Events
This Week
Welcome to the Practice of Invitation
Do not try to save the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create a clearing
in the dense forest of your life
and wait there patiently,
until the song that is your life falls
into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself to this world
so worthy of rescue.
-Clearing by Martha Postlewaite
I first attended a Sunday OUUC service looking for community. I sought a calmer mind set that wasn’t inspired by political and social battle fields. I came looking for community, but what I discovered was my personal unique spirit. The Soul Matters discussions transformed my sense of self, and helped clarify the life I wanted. Martha Postlewaite’s poem beautifully describes that process. It also is a clarion call for each of us to help create a safe, nurturing world for all of us.
I invite you to register for the Soul Matters discussion group beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 10am - 11:30am, to continue the journey – mine and yours – of soul matters.

Coming Soon: Information on Legacy Giving
There are lots of ways to contribute to OUUC: the annual stewardship drive conducted every Spring; periodic capital campaigns to fund large-scale improvements to our building (like the HVAC system and parking lot repairs); and the weekly share-the-plate solicitation to benefit a local charity as well as the church.
And there is one other way: a Legacy Gift.
Legacy Giving is an important way to support the church, and it doesn’t cost a cent (at least not right away!). A Legacy Gift is a “planned gift” made through a will or other formal estate planning document that names OUUC as a beneficiary. Arranging for a Legacy Gift is a meaningful way to express your faith, values, and commitment to ensure OUUC provides a spiritual home for generations to come. A number of OUUC members have already included OUUC in their wills, and their generosity has helped OUUC fund several needed capital projects.
Your Legacy Giving Committee, with the support of the Board and Rev. Mary, seeks to increase the number of members and friends who include OUUC in their estate plans. So, this Fall, the Legacy Giving Committee is undertaking an effort to increase Legacy Giving at OUUC by:
● Creating and publicizing the Legacy Giving page on the OUUC website;
● Sending an email to all congregants that includes a link to a sursvey to a survey so we can ascertain who has included OUUC in their estate plans and who would like more information;
● Holding an after-service forum on Legacy Giving on Sunday, September 29; and
● Staffing a table in the Commons after services on September 22, September 29, and October 6.
So, stay tuned, and read your emails!
