WALNUT HIGH SCHOOL BELL SCHEDULE
News and Announcements
Social Media and School Vandalism
The purpose of this notification is to bring to your awareness to some social media trends that have caused a disruption on our campus. Specifically, a viral TikTok challenge has been an influence on our students, as well as, many campuses around the country. The posts tagged as “Devious licks” involve theft and vandalism on school property. Although TikTok has taken these posts down as of last night, it continues to catch on with other social media platforms.
Although many students watch the content for initial humor, after reflection, students often realize it is vandalism and dangerous. Our campus has also been hit with vandalism and theft of items such as soap dispensers, toilets, school equipment, and bathrooms mirrors. These acts are in violation of California Education Code 48900 (f) and are subject to disciplinary action including but not limited to school removal, restitution, and police citations.
Please take a moment to speak with your student(s) to reinforce that their behavior choices help us to maintain our positive school culture and a safe environment. Please talk with them about social media and how it might seem fun, but has serious consequences. We ask all students who see something, to say something. Safety and access to a clean campus is our priority. Thank you, in advance, for joining us in this effort.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 909-594-1333
Important Updates from LACDPH regarding Close Contacts
While students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are still required to quarantine at home for a minimum of 10 days, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health recently announced revisions to the mandated quarantine rules and protocols for students considered to be “close contacts” of a person testing positive for COVID-19. Aligning with the guidance from the California Department of Public Health, Los Angeles County schools will now follow the “modified quarantine” rules and regulations.
As is already the practice, if a person on a school campus is identified as having tested positive for COVID-19, the school will follow current protocols to identify those students who are deemed “close contacts.” If identified as a “close contact,” vaccinated students with no symptoms will continue to remain in school (as is the current practice). Students identified as a “close contact” who are unvaccinated and are not experiencing any symptoms will continue to remain in school as long as they have no symptoms AND agree to be tested for COVID twice during the Modified Quarantine period (rather than being quarantined at home for 10 days).
The School District will continue to offer testing services four days per week on various school campuses. Additionally, all students identified as “close contacts” and who are unvaccinated will continue not to be allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities during the quarantine period even though they are allowed to stay in school (per Public Health rules and regulations). “Close contacts” are generally defined as a person having been within 6 feet of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 for 15 minutes during a 24-hour period.

2021-2022 COVID Response Protocols
First and foremost, we thank you for your partnership and support as we strive to put “Kids First, Every Student, Every Day” with the reopening of all schools.
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain our top priority. All safety recommendations and protocols adhering to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health have been implemented.
The WVUSD 2021-2022 Safe Practices Handbook was emailed to all parents and guardians last week, and it describes the protocols that are in place. We have attached (link below) the handbook with this communication for your reference.
One of the protocols outlined in the handbook is WVUSD’s Response to COVID Situations at School. As linked below, parents will receive a phone call if their child shows symptoms or if their child is in close contact with a person at school with a confirmed positive COVID test.
Parents may receive initial phone calls as a response to positively identified COVID cases. Parents whose children are directed to quarantine will receive follow-up phone calls from our district staff with detailed information. You may receive these follow-up calls during the evening hours.
Aeries One Time Student Health Screening
Parents/guardians must complete a one-time 2021/2022 COVID-19 Student Health Screening form acknowledging responsibility for your child’s daily health screening before entering the school campus. This form is now available on AERIES portal and must be completed for each child that attends WVUSD. A banner will appear in each AERIES account before the start of school.
