AJS Weekly Bison Tracks
August 30, 2024
Welcome Back AJS Families!
To those of you I have not yet met, I am Mr. Leatherdale and I am the principal of Ardrossan Junior Senior High School. We are excited to have all of you as members of the Bison community I look forward to getting to know all of you.
There are a few items we want you to be aware of as we go into next week:
School administration
Our school administration team is:
Mr. R. Leatherdale Principal
Mrs. S. Locke Assistant Principal (Grades 8, 10 and 12)
Mrs. T. Williamson (Grades 7, 9 and 11)
Door Locking
From a security perspective, the most important function of an exterior door is for protection from the elements and to control entry for building security. Elk Island Public Schools has enacted a Building Security and Door Locking Procedure for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
All exterior doors, including the front entrance doors, will be locked, and opened only for student and visitor access during designated school entry times and special events.
Students who arrive when doors are locked, as well as parents/caregivers and visitors, will be welcomed into the office through the main entrance after ringing the doorbell/video-monitored intercom entry system. All visitors must sign in and out of the school at the main office, follow the visitor protocol and wear visible identification.
Personal Communication Devices (Cell phones)
In accordance with EIPS’ Policy 24, we ask that students not be in procession of cell phones during class time. The safest place for them to be stored is in their locker. We will work with students to help create good habits, but should cell phone use become a problem, it may involve a visit to the office to be addressed by administration.
We hope you all have a good long weekend and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Pay school fees online!
Wondering when and how to pay for school fees? School fee information for the 2024-25 school year will be posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal in late September. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. NOTE: Additional fees may be added throughout the year—for example, at the beginning of each semester, as your child takes part in various activities, or they may be adjusted by changes in selected optional courses in junior and senior high school. Update your PowerSchool information
The EIPS Correction and Verification Form is available online through your PowerSchool Parent Portal—at the top of the left-hand menu. Use the form to access and update your child’s records information—including address, parent and guardian information, emergency contacts and medical information. Reviewing the form and submitting updates ensures the school has the most up-to-date information regarding your child.
When reviewing the form, pay close attention to all listed phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contact information. Also, if you recently moved, now is the time to ensure the Division has your updated address. Throughout the year, the Division and school use the listed information to communicate with families about important information, including updates, the latest news and events.

Video surveillance at schools and on buses
Did you know each EIPS bus is equipped with video surveillance, and many school sites have video monitoring equipment?
Video surveillance and equipment help:
· ensure the safety of all students, staff, drivers and property; and
· discourage destructive acts.
As needed, EIPS school administration and Student Transportation staff review video recordings, in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. The recordings assist schools and the Division with monitoring student and driver conduct and may be used as evidence in a disciplinary matter.
For more information about the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, contact the EIPS FOIP Co-ordinator at 780-464-3477.
