Activity description
The RIASEC Stations Activity introduces RIASEC trait domains by providing hands-on activities that allow students to experience tasks and skills that relate to careers and specific trait domains. Students self-assess which RIASEC stations they most enjoyed by rating each station. Students identify their top three RIASEC domains as a baseline. In the third marking period, students will learn more about RIASEC and take the Career Key Assessment to discover their computer-generated RIASEC scores based on a series of academic, personal, and personality questions. Students can then compare the two results and evaluate their RIASEC domains.

Food Drive Student Service Project
The state of Maryland has a high school graduation requirement for students to learn how to practice citizenship. As part of their student service learning, all 6th graders, along with NJHS, are teaming up to sponsor a Fall Food Drive for Local Food Pantries These pantries will ensure that the food stays in St. Mary’s County. The food drive is from November 18-22, 2024. Students are asked to bring in nonperishable or boxed foods to help restock the pantry for a and help our local community for their student service learning project. Our sixth grade students have been learning about hunters and gatherers. One standard that they have spent much of this marking period working on is : Describe the characteristics and innovations of hunting and gathering societies, such as nomadic lifestyles, inventors of tools, adaptation to animal migration and vegetation cycles, and the shift from food gathering to food-producing activities.
The pantry will always take unused food that has not expired. They are in need of the following items:
Stuffing mix, tea bags, canned fruit, jello: pudding and mixes, Ramen noodles, boxed meals, small drink packets, instant mashed potatoes, rice, canned meat, taco shells and toiletries.
Students that bring in 3 or more items will have their name placed in a random drawing for a gift card.
