End-of-Year Message to Leasure Students, Staff and Families!
Dear Leasure Students, Staff and Families,
As we close the chapter on the 2024–2025 school year, I want to take a moment to speak from the heart and say thank you. This was my first year as principal of Leasure Elementary, and from day one, you welcomed me with kindness, trust, and partnership. Because of you—and because of the incredible students we serve—this year was nothing short of extraordinary.
Together, we accomplished so much. We embraced a new i-Ready Math curriculum, and our students not only adjusted—they excelled, with many meeting and surpassing their growth goals. In March, we were recognized as the #1 school in the state for SORA Reading, a reflection of the reading culture you’ve helped us build at home and in school. Our AAP students competed in statewide academic challenges, including the Science Olympiad, proudly bringing home awards that reflect their brilliance and dedication.
We also created opportunities for our students to shine beyond the classroom. Our children’s artwork was showcased at the Delaware Art Museum, their writing celebrated through our Student Author program, and their voices lifted in song during our Fall and Spring Concerts. We celebrated civic learning with First Grade Community Day and came together in joy for events like Literacy Night, Spaghetti Night, Sneaker Ball, and the energetic Fall Fun Day.
One of the most memorable moments this year came in February when we partnered with Glasgow High School for a Super Bowl-themed PBS event. Their football players and cheerleaders mentored our students, taught them new skills, and even created a new Leasure cheer. The joy on our students’ faces reminded all of us why these community connections matter so deeply.
We also celebrated student growth and transitions in meaningful ways—from our award assemblies to the beautiful Kindergarten and Grade 5 Move-Up Ceremonies. And we ended the year with our Annual Picnic Day, which brought over 300 people together in laughter, sunshine, and community spirit.
Behind every event, every celebration, and every success were you—our families. Thank you for encouraging your children, attending our events, partnering with our teachers, and walking alongside us with grace and belief.
I want to give a special thank you to our PTA, whose generosity and tireless efforts supported so many of these experiences. From organizing events to providing thoughtful gestures, your partnership has made a lasting impact. I also want to thank every family who contributed during Teacher Appreciation Week—your kind words, thoughtful gifts, and warm encouragement meant the world to our staff.
This year, our Leasure community also came together in a powerful way through our Cancer Care Package Campaign. Thanks to your incredible support, we were able to donate care packages to patients undergoing treatment at Bayhealth Hospital and Nemours Children’s Hospital. Your compassion, generosity, and willingness to give back truly reflect the heart of this school.
As we head into summer, please remember:
Grades 1–4: Students should complete their Summer Workbooks to stay on top of their learning and ready for fall.
Grade 5: Students should read Aru Shah and the End of Time and complete the assignments, which will be due at the start of middle school.
As a reminder, all report cards will be mailed home.
And to all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and father figures in our Leasure community—Happy Father’s Day! Today, we celebrate the guidance, love, and strength you bring to the lives of our students every day.
This year has been filled with growth, challenge, celebration, and community. I am incredibly proud of all we’ve achieved and deeply honored to serve as your principal. Thank you for walking alongside me through this first year. The road ahead is bright—and I can’t wait to continue building our vision together.
Wishing you a joyful, restful, and safe summer!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Principal Getugi
