Hello DMIS Families,

We hope you’ve all had a restful break and are excited to welcome our students back on Monday, January 6th! Please be aware we may experience some inclement weather this weekend. You can find our inclement weather plan on the WPS Inclement Weather Website for more information.

Weapons Detectors Starting in January

To further enhance school safety, the Daniel Morgan Campus will begin using weapons detectors:

• January 6 (DMMS)
• January 13 (DMIS)

Students will need to remove their Chromebooks from their backpacks before passing through the detectors. Please help remind your child to have these items out of their backpack before getting out of the car or off the bus to keep the line moving quickly.

Panorama Survey

Our annual School Climate and Quality Survey will be open to parents and guardians January 6–17. Beginning January 6, there are three ways to participate:

1. You will receive a direct email invitation.
2. You can access the survey on the WPS and school websites.
3. You can stop by any school’s front office and take the survey online.

We value your feedback and appreciate your participation in this important survey!

Glow Night at DMIS – January 16

We’re excited to host a division-wide Literacy Night (Glow Night themed) for students and families in grades K–6 on Thursday, January 16, from 5:15–7:00 pm at DMIS. Please see the attached flyer for details and RSVP information.

January 6th: First Day Back for Students

• Did anyone do anything silly today to make you laugh?
• What did you do that was creative?
• What was the best thing that happened over break?

Our SEL curriculum is currently focusing on teaching students about social awareness. Talk to your child about current events. When you’re watching the evening newscast or reading the morning paper, ask your child to give you their opinion on these issues and talk to him about the people involved on both sides. These types of stories make children aware of historical events and allow them to relate to the hardships and joys of others. They also help children to learn more about conflict resolution and the importance of respecting others and their opinions.
