Points from the Principal
It sure doesn't feel like Fall!
Even though these days are hot, our students are staying cool in school. There is a lot happening every day here and students can become overwhelmed. Remind them we have help for them and all they need to do is ask an adult.
We will be practicing several drills throughout the year and reassure your students that the drills are necessary to keep them safe.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Atkins
Words from a Cop
Careless Driving: A person who operates a vehicle upon a highway or a frozen public lake, stream, or pond or other place open to the general public including an area designated for the parking of vehicles in a careless or negligent manner likely to endanger any person or property, but without wantonness or recklessness, is responsible for a civil infraction.
This is the ticket one might receive for damaging property (including car accidents), or speeding through our lots. To the best of my knowledge, this is 3 points and $300+ ticket. These past weeks I have been monitoring the lots, most of us have been doing a great job. Let’s keep our kids safe. As a friendly reminder, it is only 10mph through all of the parking lots and service drive (by the baseball field) and it is posted. I understand how stressful mornings can be trying to get kids ready for school; being a parent myself. Running late happens, but do not put others in danger because of your own tardiness.
Cutting through parking spaces. This is a great way to cause an accident, or hit someone. There are lanes provided for traffic. Try to think of the parking lines as buildings and go around them to the appropriate traffic lanes. Driving through parking spaces falls into the definition of careless driving under the part “likely to endanger”. If the parking lot is empty, not so likely. If school just got dismissed, very likely. Again this is just a reminder. This year in this aspect has been going great. Let’s keep it up.
Stay safe, stay vigilant

This is to comply with Michigan Law/Michigan School Health Code (380.1178-380.1179a) and the Swan Valley School District policy (8670). This policy is to ensure the safety of the student and for protection of liability for school staff. We appreciate your cooperation. You may obtain the Medication Authorization Form from the district’s website (swanvalleyschools.com) or pick-up a copy from the school office. Please contact me at 989-921-2621 or via email @ knewman@swanvalley.k12.mi.us should you have questions or concerns.
