Today we celebrate Chris Chilcoat. Chris, the Principal at Sunset View, received the Provo Way award in April, 2024. Chris is an outstanding principal who leads his school without forgetting to make personal connection with the students in the halls of Sunset View. “The tube in my tire was popped,” explained Kahealani Hales, a student at Sunset View. “When I came back he had replaced the tube in my bicycle while I was in school.” Read the full story at provo.edu.

For: Secondary ELA Teachers
This year, USBE has presented a series of webinars to help secondary ELA teachers implement the new Utah standards. All of the webinars were recorded and teachers can now access all recordings, as well as resources from each session, by going to the secondary ELA drive. Post exp.5.21
For: Elementary Principals
Provided is an inventory list by grade-level of all curricular materials that should remain in a teacher’s classroom at the end of the year. This inventory is for your convenience and does not need to be submitted beyond your own tracking. Please note that McGraw Hill’s Wonders materials (sixth grade only) may be surplused at the end of this year as a new program is being adopted. The next surplus pickup date is June 13th. The Provo City School District Department of Title I and Title III is now offering a competency-based ESL Endorsement for all interested teachers. Participants will complete courses in Canvas to demonstrate competency in the five Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) domains: language acquisition; cultural diversity; planning and implementing instruction; assessment and evaluation; and professionalism and leadership. The Colonial Heritage Festival is an amazing opportunity to step back in time and be part of colonial America in the time leading up to the Revolutionary War and the Founding of the United States of America. We need people to help set up on July 2 at Scera Park in Orem, take down on July 8, and fulfill multiple shifts at the festival on July 4,5,6 (the festival shift require you to “dress the part” which we can help you with ). This summer the technology department in conjunction with Google will perform a merger of the Student Google workspace into our main workspace taking the district from two Google Workspaces down to one. This merger is needed for several reasons, but the main reason is to simplify the future workflow so that teachers are not juggling two different email domain logins for mission critical apps and products. More information will be emailed out to students, parents, employees, and school administration.
