Hispanic Heritage Month in Music Class
For Hispanic Heritage Month in Music Class, we have been learning about Grammy Award Winning and MacArthur Genius Grant Award Winner (2011), Dafnis Prieto. Dafnis Prieto was born in Santa Clara, Cuba. He is considered to be one of the most innovative and creative modern percussionists in the world. Known for his Latin/Jazz style music, Dafnis amazes the music community with his mastery of rhythmic knowledge and independence. Mr. Prieto joined a select group of students through a GoogleMeet session on Monday, Sept. 30th. The students got a chance to speak to, ask questions, and hear from Mr. Prieto in person (through the computer). Please take the time to check out his music, videos, and recordings (his new album was released this Friday, September 27th on all streaming platforms). You will be amazed. We are extremely grateful and thankful to have this wonderful opportunity and thank Mr. Prieto for his generosity, time, and musicianship."

A Note From Mrs. Collyer
Just a reminder that conferences will be held Wednesday evening 5-8:00 pm and Thursday during the day and evening. There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Thursday October 10th.
Thank you for making every effort to be here for conferences. It is so important that we work together for the academic success of our Coolidge Cougars. If you don't have a conference time scheduled with your child's teacher please get in touch with them.
Here are some conference tips:
*Decide in advance the questions you want to ask the teacher. Its a good idea to jot them down. Pinpoint specific situations and avoid generalities.
*Ask your child if there is anything she/he would like you to discuss with the teacher.
*Be ready to tell the teacher what she/he needs to know. Teachers are not prying when they ask about your children's health, hobbies, homework habits, or feelings about school. Knowing these things will be helpful in her teaching approach to your child.
*If you are concerned about something you have heard, or something your child has told you about school, keep an open mind until you hear the facts.
*The conference doesn't end here. You have the right to know, at any time, about your child's
progress. A telephone call to your child's teacher, will allow you to set up an appointment at a
time convenient to both of you.
*Teachers value the interest and opinions of parents.

Coolidge Drop off and Pick up Procedures
The Loop (Highly Recommended) – The loop can be used for drop off or pick up. Students should remain in their cars until the car has come to a complete stop in the painted half circle area. Please do not let your child out of the car, or wave your child to your car, while you are in any other part of the loop area or driveway. Do not leave the loop area until the vehicle in front of you has left. Please remain alert and ready to move forward with traffic.
The Parking lot - The parking lot can be used for drop off or pick up. Your car should be parked in a parking spot and you will need to walk your child to and from the school doors. Your child should NEVER be in the parking lot without you at their side. The ONLY place that parking or sitting is permitted, is in a designated parking space. Parking anywhere else could prevent our buses from coming or going. (Using the loop is easier.)
PTA NEWS AND INFORMATION
Coolidge Elementary PTA wanted to update our families on our latest fundraisers/events:
Coolidge Elementary PTA wanted to update our families on our latest fundraisers/events:
We had a very busy day last friday sorting and distributing 712 mum plants to our amazing families that participated in this fundraiser. The PTA made a total profit of $3,560 on this fundraiser ($5/plant sold).
Our Dance-A-Thon raised a total of $18,345!!! Of this amount, the PTA keeps a total of $17,638.50. The school wide goals that our students earned include: hat spirit day (TBD), Mrs. Collyer will be dressing up for our dance-a-thon event on 10/31 & ALL students will receive a custom Coolidge Cougars spirit stick and keychain (these have been ordered). Any student that registered and shared their webpage will be receiving their rainbow paw print spirit stick this week! Our top 3 classes in the school were: Team McPherson, Team Beauvais and Team Poe. These classrooms will be receiving $25 worth of indoor recess materials for their students. The top student in each classroom will be receiving a form with their spirit stick this week to select a free spirit sticker from our online spirit store. Please send these forms back to school so we can provide the sticker. Lastly, our top 4 students in the school have earned themselves a free t-shirt or tote bag from our upcoming spirit wear sale. This sale will begin at the end of the month. The PTA will reach out to these students to get their choice of item and sizing.
On 10/18/24 the PTA will be hosting our first caregivers and conversations coffee hour. This program is set up by our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging committee. This program will begin at 9am and be located inside Coolidge Elementary. Please come and join fellow caregivers (parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc) for some light refreshments and conversations about bullying prevention and other topics of interest. You must have a valid I-chat form on file to participate in this program.
On 10/23/24 the PTA will be setting up our spirit store during recess for students to shop at. We will be selling our spirit sticks and spirit stickers. Spirit sticks and keychains are $1 each and spirit stickers $3 each. We ask that if participating, students bring no more than $5 to spend in an envelope/bag labeled with their name, teacher and amount. We will be sending out a sign up to our members that indicated an interest in volunteer opportunities to help with this sale. If it goes well, we hope to offer them monthly or every other month. If you visit our website (coolidge.givebacks.com) and select the volunteer opportunities tab you can find our volunteer sign ups and chairperson contact information if you are interested in helping.
Look out for Youth Making a Difference information to come home, our theme is Hop in and Help this year. This is a district wide volunteer and community service campaign. Please start sending commitment forms in asap so students' names can be added to our hallway bulletin board. Don’t forget to document your projects!
