Principal's Corner
Primary Families,
I know we are all glad that Hot-tober is over! Now we can enjoy the cooler weather and the much needed rain. We had a busy month of October but November appears to slow down a bit. We want to thank all of you for coming to your child's parent/teacher conference. It was great visiting with you all and sharing all the great things about your child. We also want to thank you for filling out our building parent survey at the end of your conference. We were thrilled to see that our parents felt the school was communicating with them and they knew how their child was doing academically when they left their conference.
At your conference you should have received a piece of paper that provided you with a code in order for you to view your child's ATLAS data from the beginning of the year screener. If you have any questions about your child's scores from ATLAS please don't hesitate to reach out.

A Note Of Gratitude
Each year during November, I send out a Google Form asking for parents to write a note of gratitude to their child's teacher. The week before Thanksgiving I send an email to each teacher with the kind words you shared about them. Our staff values this tradition more than anything else we do in our building. Please take a minute a fill out the following form for our staff members by November 15th. We want every single staff member to receive a note of gratitude the week prior to Thanksgiving.

I hope you all are taking time to enjoy all the beautiful colors of fall and the cooler
weather.
Tis the season and we are seeing more illnesses this time of the year/. Please make sure
your child is 24 hours fever free and/or free of vomiting without medication before
returning to school.
We still have lots of jackets, hoodies, lunch boxes and miscellaneous items in the lost and
found. If you don’t mind writing your child’s name inside their coats and other items I
will do my best to make sure they are returned.

November begins the season for traveling and spending time away from home with family and
friends. It can be challenging to keep kids entertained while traveling, so why not keep them
entertained while being engaged and interested in learning at the same time? Here are 10
activities to try to make the season fun for everyone.
1. Play 20 Questions – Build vocabulary and comprehension by using descriptive words to
ask yes or no questions.
2. Alphabet Hunt – Find letters of the alphabet in order on signs or objects during walks or
car rides.
3. Create a Story Chain – Start a story with a sentence or two and let your child continue it.
Take turns adding sentences and see how the story unfolds. Perfect for creativity,
imagination, and language skills.
4. Magnetic Letters – Bring along magnetic letters for a fun, hands-on word and alphabet
activity.
5. Spelling Bee Challenge – Give your child a word and ask them to spell it aloud.
6. I Spy – Play the classic “I Spy” to practice letter recognition and get kids looking at their
surroundings.
7. Blank books, crayons, pencils, markers – Bring along blank books and create your own
book about your trip. Don’t forget the illustrations!
8. How Many Words – Play how many words can you write or spell or say beginning with a
letter in two minutes.
9. Grocery Shopping Spree – Turn a trip to the grocery store into a ready adventure. Ask
your child to help read and find items on the shopping list, read food labels together, and
discuss the different words and their meanings.
10. Recipe Fun – Have your child help with a favorite or new recipe by reading the
directions, helping measure ingredients, and the best part…taste testing!
I hope this busy season is filled with good books, great conversations, and wonderful memories!
