LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Snyder Families,
Happy November!
Thank you to everyone that attended the Mother/Son event, Snyder Character Parade, and Boosterthon! All of these events were successful and we appreciate all the positive comments, emails, messages, and social media posts expressing how exciting and organized the events were. I hope all our families are enjoying the cooler/rainy weather and are looking forward to our upcoming Thanksgiving break!
November 11th is Veteran’s Day and I’d like to take this time to thank all our Veterans for their dedicated service to the United States Armed Forces. We will be forever grateful for their bravery and sacrifices to protect our country’s freedom.
Thank you to everyone who makes Snyder Elementary an outstanding school. Our staff strives to help each and every student be successful and to love learning. Our families support us in that process and help their students understand the importance of education.
The staff joins me in wishing all our students and families a joyful Thanksgiving break, November 25th-29th. Enjoy the time off with your family, and remember that students return on Monday, December 2nd.
Proud Principal,
Mrs. Poncho

CISD CAFETERIA LUNCH PROCEDURES AND PRICING
All detailed information about meals, pricing, and accounts can be found at the following link https://www.conroeisd.net/department/child-nutrition/. You are also able to see itemized purchases your child makes on your parent access account.
Child Nutrition offers meal service for breakfast and lunch to the children of Conroe ISD from EC – 12th grade on a daily basis during the school year. Per CISD Board of Trustees Policy CO (Local), students are allowed 15 days (breakfast and lunch) to charge their meals. This time period is allowing for families to navigate any financial challenges or apply for the school lunch program (free/reduced meals).
Parents/Guardians will receive an email notification once their child's meal balance is negative. Emails will continue to be sent until the negative balance is paid.
Students that reach or surpass the 15-day limit will receive a modified meal as follows:
a. Breakfast would consist of milk and choice of cereal.
b. Lunch would consist of a sub sandwich and milk.
During lunch, a student is welcome to purchase items a la carte, as a meal, as well as go back in line to purchase a second lunch. If you care to restrict any purchases whether a la carte or second lunches, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.
What makes a meal?
Lunch: The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires students paying the set meal price or receiving free meals to select menu components that meet the meal pattern. The meal pattern consists of FIVE components: meat/meat alternate, grain, fruit, vegetable and milk.
If the minimum number of components for each meal are not selected by the student, a la carte prices will be charged.
-Must choose at least three of the five offered components to make a meal.
-Must choose at least a half cup of fruit or vegetable to receive the meal price.
A la Carte:
-Extra entrees, extra sides, chips, cookies, etc. are all charged a la carte prices and are not included in the meal.
- For example, if a student gets a meal of chicken smackers, mashed potatoes, and milk, but wants an extra portion of chicken smackers, the extra portion is not considered a part of the meal and will be charged an additional $3.35.
- If a parent wishes to restrict a la carte purchases, please contact the Child Nutrition Office.

SNYDER LUNCH AND VISITOR GUIDELINES
We are excited to welcome parents in to the building in a safe and healthy manner.
- Due to the size of our student population and every table in the cafeteria being utilized by our students, we encourage you to limit the number of times you eat lunch with your child to no more than 1-2 days per month.
- Please know that there is a designated "Visitor" area to sit with your child, by the stage under the TV.
- Parents may be more comfortable dropping off their child’s lunch, saying hi, and allowing your child to socialize with their peers.
- All visitors will need to check in the front office and show the receptionist your ID.
Please know that there will be many other opportunities to volunteer this school year, for example; Boosterthon Fun Run, Library Volunteers, PTO volunteers.
We look forward to safely welcoming parents and volunteers in the building and will continue to monitor how to make the lunch visitor process go smoothly.
IMPORTANT LUNCH VISITORS:
We welcome lunch visitors at Snyder and want to ensure the continued safety and security of everyone as they enjoy their time together. If a grandparent, family member or adult other than the parent/guardians want to visit your child during lunch, the parent/guardian must send in written permission to the front office by emailing snyder@conroeisd.net. The note will only need to be sent once; we will keep the information on file so the school will have record of the permission being granted for future lunch visits. If a note is not sent, we will call the guardian to grant permission before the visitor is allowed to join a student for lunch.
Lunch Times:
Pre K 12:45-1:15

MORNING ARRIVAL
School begins at 7:55 am. Our doors will open at 7:15 am every school day. We hope that by allowing extra time, this will continue to alleviate the traffic.
Please note that the busiest time to drop off is between 7:45-7:55 AM. Prior to this, there are few cars on Birnham Woods Drive. Please take this into consideration. Additionally, please carpool if possible. For students arriving between 7:15-7:30 am, they will go straight to the recess playground for extra play. Staff members will be on duty to supervise and monitor the students. When the bell rings at 7:30 AM, students will go to class, and meet their teacher.
**PARENTS WHO DROP OFF AFTER 7:55AM MUST PARK IN LOT
AND WALK STUDENT INTO THE BUILDING AND CHECK THEM
IN AT FRONT DESK.** THANK YOU ADMIN
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL
School dismisses at 3:10 pm. The car rider line is over about 3:30pm and buses are having a shortage on drivers and could run behind. Please have patience with us, as it is very important that each child is safe.
It is important for your child to keep their backpack tag on their backpack to assist with our safety procedures during dismissal. Please pay close attention to the dismissal forms your child’s teacher will have you complete. This information is very important to assist us with accurate dismissal.
Car rider:
- If your child is a car rider, you must have a the 2024-2025 district designated car rider sign to show at dismissal. Please write your child’s name(s) in BIG, BOLD, DARK writing to help read your sign. Car rider is a “follow the leader” activity, with patience please. Please be sure that your car rider sign is visible at ALL times.
Please Do Not start forming the car rider line in front of the school before 2:00.
- During the school day, this fire lane needs to stay clear for emergency vehicles only. It is imperative that the lane in front of the school is clear any time before 2:00pm
Please be sure that your child can enter the car by the door closest to the curb.
Due to the safety of our patrols and students, we ask that you do not park and get out of the car to open the passenger door on the driver’s side. This is not only unsafe, but it also slows the flow of the car rider line.
Bus riders: PreK/K students are required to have a parent at the bus stop. All bus riders are required to be registered to ride the bus. You can do this at https://www.conroeisd.net/transportation/
If your child is riding the bus, please take the time to meet the driver, if possible. It helps them to see a face and it helps them to remember which children get off at the different stops. PK and Kindergarten students MUST have an adult at the bus stop to greet them. In addition, the adult needs to have the sign that was provided to them from the teacher. No PK or Kindergarten children will be released without an adult. If your child does not get off the bus, please call Snyder to verify they loaded the bus. Often times, children fall asleep on the ride home and miss their stop.
Walker/Biker – PreK/K students are required to have a parent at our walker/biker dismissal locations with a sign with the student name to be released.
As a reminder, during dismissal no students will be able to meet their parents in our parking lot, near the tennis courts, or any of the school doors if they are a "walker/biker."
Daycare: Please verify with your daycare that they pick up at Snyder and that your child is registered to ride their bus at dismissal.
7:55 am Tardy Bell - Students are marked tardy
9:00 am Attendance Bell—Students are either present or absent for the day.
Picking Student up Early:
The latest you can pick up a student prior to dismissal is 2:00pm. Please come to the school with your ID to sign your student out.
Change of Transportation:
If you need to change your students mode of transportation at dismissal, please send a note in their backpack and have them give the note to their teacher.
A same day change can also be emailed to:
Snyder@conroeisd.net before 2:00pm (please cc their teachers).
😲 FORGOT YOUR CAR RIDER SIGN 😲 - PLEASE PARK AND
BRING I.D. TO FRONT OFFICE TO REQUEST A NEW SIGN.
THEN YOUR CHOICE IS:
1. GO BACK INTO THE CAR RIDER LINE TO PICK UP STUDENT 🚗
2. WAIT UNTIL CAR RIDER LINE IS COMPLETE AND STUDENT IS
BROUGHT TO OFFICE🏫
NEWS FROM THE CLINIC
There are lots of germs making their way through school this time of year. Please help minimize the spread of germs by encouraging frequent handwashing and keeping your ill child home from school and activities until they are well! Please review our illness policy below:
Illness Policy
Please continue to follow the district guidelines regarding student illness. If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home from school. They must be free of fever, vomiting, and diarrhea for 24 hours WITHOUT medicine before they can return. If you are keeping them home due to illness, please notify the school so the attendance office can correctly mark their absences. If they are diagnosed with any contagious illness (strep, flu, etc) please let the Snyder clinic know so we can track the numbers and report them to the county health department.
Any student who is sent home from the school clinic due to illness will be excused from school for 24 hours. If symptoms persist beyond that, a doctor's note will be required for any further absences to be EXCUSED.
Make the smart choice and WEAR YOUR HELMET!!
In October, the clinic started a safety initiative encouraging all our Stallions to be safe when riding ANYTHING with wheels. Helmets should be worn by EVERYONE when riding bikes, scooters, skates, rollerblades, skateboards, hover boards, etc. Be sure you're setting a great example for your kids and wear a helmet yourself when riding any of these things, or at the very least, ensure your child has a proper fitting helmet to wear. Wearing a helmet has nothing to do with how good of a rider you are. Accidents can happen to anyone at any time and helmets help save lives! Please do your part as parents and encourage your kids to wear helmets.
Thanks to our wonderful PTO, four students were chosen from our drawing to win a new helmet at the end of October! Along with the giveaway, any student who was caught wearing their helmet to/from school earned a Snyder buck each day and was given the opportunity to attend a celebratory popsicle party with Nurse Emily and Mrs. Potter! It was a great success! We saw great improvement in the number of students choosing to wear helmets and we're so proud of these smart choices. We're going to keep the initiative going, so any students who continue to wear their helmet will be celebrated at the end of November, as well!
Soooooo.....MAKE THE SMART CHOICE AND WEAR YOUR HELMET!!
Contact the school clinic with any questions or concerns!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
A Message from Mrs. Lehman and Mrs. Allum:
Stallion Superstars Character Education program
During the month of November Snyder Stallions will focus on the Character Pillar of Responsibility. They can exhibit this character trait by demonstrating the following habits of the week:
I can care for the things that are important to me, like schoolwork, family, and myself.
I can be prepared and bring the materials that I need.
I can clean up the messes I see, even if I didn’t make them.
I can keep myself and others safe.
We will have our Superstar Celebration on Thursday, November 21. Students will be notified by a letter if they are the superstar for the month.
GT Nominations for Testing

You may request a referral form from the front office or the Snyder Counselors. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
· Testing will take place in January. Results will be sent home in May.

What is an Act of Kindness?
An act of kindness is an action designed to make the world a kinder place. A kind act is a good deed done to show compassion and love for another person, without any expectation of getting anything in return. It helps others feel good, instead of bad. It improves wellbeing, rather than diminishing it. It costs nothing but can be priceless.
Kind acts can be done for anyone, whether you know them or not. You might do something nice for someone to make them feel happy, valued, or appreciated.
Kindness has an impact on children's wellbeing by making them feel happier and more connected to others.
KINDNESS ACTIVITIES FOR YOUR CHILD AND FAMILY
Random acts of kindness-
Kindness rocks- Painting rocks with positive messages
Kindness scavenger hunt- Give each person a list of kind acts to do
Make a kindness chain- write or draw something you are thankful for on a paper chain link and keep adding all the kindness to the chain
Community acts of kindness as a family
FOUNDATIONS SPOTLIGHT

THIRD GRADE NEWS
November brings another month of learning in third grade.

This unit uses what students know about plot elements and characterization in fiction texts to deepen their understanding through predictions and story structure.
For Writing, we will continue our Informational Essay Writing Unit. Then we will move into our Opinion Fiction Literary Essay Writing. This unit aims to make reading a more intense, thoughtful experience for writers by equipping them with tools they need to write simple essays that advance an idea about a piece of literature.
In Math, we will finish up our unit on Addition and Subtraction and dive into our first unit on Multiplication and Division. We will be building an understanding of what multiplication and division means and learn different representations, such as equal groups, repeated addition/subtraction, arrays, area models, strip diagrams, and skip counting on a number line.

DELIVERIES AND DROP TABLE AT FRONT OFFICE:
In an effort to minimize instructional time interruptions, our front office staff does not call the classrooms to inform the teacher/student that an item has been dropped off for a student. However, we know that sometimes our Stallions leave things they need at home and we offer parents the courtesy of a drop table to deliver forgotten items, which is located just inside the front office. There are pens, paper and tape available for you to use to clearly identify items for your child to collect. Please drop any items off by 10:30am and parents must EMAIL the teacher. (This is to help when lunches are dropped off, the teachers have plenty of time to check their emails and pickup the lunch on the lunch cart.)
We are working hard to minimize classroom interruptions.
If you cannot make it by 10:30am to drop off a student's lunch, please arrive for your students lunch time, listed above, and sign in at the Front Office and you can deliver the lunch to your child.
Student Lunches and birthday cookies will be taken to the Cafeteria, on a cart, for your child to pick up at their allotted lunch time. Please make sure ALL ITEMS are clearly labeled.
Here are a few guidelines:
- Deliveries from anyone or any organization other than parents/guardians will not be accepted by the school to deliver to a student. (Flowers, Tiff's Treats, etc.)
- Parents and guardians may deliver fast food, if they wish, but the school will not accept deliveries from restaurants or delivery companies such as DoorDash or Grubhub for students. These deliveries will be turned away.
SEVERE WEATHER DISMISSAL:
Severe Weather Dismissal (will be called at 2:45)
Inclement Weather WILL ONLY AFFECT THE WALKERS AND BIKERS DISMISSAL.
(If your student is car rider, bus rider, or daycare they will go home their normal way.)
Notification of severe weather dismissal will be sent as an email and text for those who have Parent Access accounts. You will be notified around 2:45 in order for procedures to be followed. Although we will make every effort to adhere to this time, there may be times when it may be necessary to make the call after 2:45.
If there is light rain falling, all biker/walkers will be dismissed as usual. It would be a good idea for students who walk or ride their bike to have a rain coat to wear on such days.
Parents of Bikers and walkers- make sure your child's teacher knows the alternate transportation for your child.
If your child is usually a biker/walker, and their alternate transportation is car rider, you will need to wait in the car rider line for pick up, or you may wait in the front office until the end of dismissal when we are able to retrieve your child from their alternate dismissal line. There is no need to check your child out from the front office.
Picking up Student Early (no later than 2:00)
The latest you can pick up a student in front office prior to dismissal is 2:00pm.
(Please let the front office know, in writing, if an alternate person is picking up student.)
If you have any questions call Mrs. Mejia at 832-663-4400
LOST AND FOUND:
Has your child lost one (or a few) Water bottles? Lunchboxes? If you feel that your student has lost an item, please have them check the lost and found. Students are encouraged to be responsible for their belongings.
Please note that the lost and found items will be donated at the end of each month or before a holiday break. To ensure that your student can reclaim items before the end of each month please place their names on their personal belongings. If you feel your student is missing an item encourage them to check the lost and found.
