Since October, Fourteenth Street School has been participating in a grant-funded fresh fruit and vegetable program. On Wednesdays and Fridays, Ms. Walls prepares that week's fruit or vegetable delivery, which students eat in their classroom during their regular snack time. Favorite foods have included blueberries, apples, kiwi, clementines, snap peas, cherry tomatoes, string beans, and, as you can see, strawberries. We are so fortunate to have had access to these delicious and healthy snacks and hope the program will continue next year!
Fourteenth Street School is partnering with Apparel Impact to recycle used textiles, including clothing, shoes, and accessories, by hosting a clothing recovery bin in front of the school next to the Little Free Library. Donated items (whether wearable or not) are sold on secondary markets, which means they are repurposed rather than buried in landfill or incinerated.
