HOA Happenings
May 2nd, 2024
for all K-12 families of Hillsboro Online Academy
Administrator's message
Dear Parents,
We're almost at the finish line for this school year, and I wanted to thank you for all your support along the way. As we get closer to summer, let's make sure our students finish strong!
Thank you to the Kinder through 8th grade families that supported their children in making science and art projects for our annual Science Showcase. We had over 200 people show up to view some amazing projects. I know the students felt all the support and excitement the night brought.
In these final weeks, let's rally together to ensure that every student has the resources and encouragement they need to succeed. Learning Coaches, your encouragement at home is super important. Keep cheering your kids on and helping them stay motivated. Please take a moment and go view your child’s Canvas through your observer account. Work together to make goals with your child in order to finish everything before the end of the year. If you need extra support, email or call a teacher.
Please remember if you wish to stay with Hillsboro Online Academy for next year, we need you to fill out the transfer registration form (found on our school website) as soon as possible. This will help us to make sure and have enough staff to support your children next school year. If you do not fill it out right away, you will be transferred back to your home school.
Thanks for being part of our school family.
Warm regards,
Shannon Freudenthal, K-12 Administrator

Spring attendance challenge
As we welcome the vibrant colors and fresh beginnings of spring, we're reminded of the countless opportunities ahead for our students to thrive and grow. It's a season of renewal and possibility, and we're excited to embark on this journey with you and your student.
We invite families to join us in setting a spring goal of increasing their student’s attendance to 92% or higher. Consistent attendance plays a pivotal role in your student's educational journey, paving the way for enhanced learning experiences and overall success. By prioritizing attendance, we can ensure that every day is an opportunity for growth and enrichment.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child's education. Together, let's make this spring a season of inspiration and accomplishment!
Summer School News
HOA will be providing a summer credit attainment program for high school students that earned an Incomplete in a core subject. We will be offering a chance to earn credit AND a letter grade in the following courses: English Language Arts (ELA), Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and Social Sciences (World History, US History, People and Politics, Economics).
This summer program will be held in person on: June 17-18, 20-21, 24-28, and July 1st. We will be able to have a morning session from 8:30-12:00 and afternoon session 12:30-4:00 if we have enough students interested. Students can attend one or both sessions. The program will be held at Oak Street Campus, 440 SE Oak Street, in our HOA classrooms.
In order to plan staffing for the summer program, we need to know how many students will attend either morning, afternoon or both. Please go to the Survey link below and choose the option(s) that best fit your student’s needs.
