Wee Wuns Newsletter
MARCH 2025
Director’s Message:
YEE HAW! What a fun time of year to be from Texas! The excitement from the Houston Rodeo is so contagious. I get so excited as the Trail Riders begin to make their way into town. The children love our units on Texas and Farm! They love pretending to be cowgirls and cowboys, wearing their boots and western wear, and participating in the special activities we have planned. Giddy Up!
This brings me to the core value of Wee Wuns, that children learn best through play. Their imaginative play while in our program can lead them to a successful school experience. I have included a poem titled “Just Playing”. It gives you a glimpse of the amazing things children are experiencing and learning through their play. May we all make time for play, every day.
Just Playing
When I’m building in the block center,
Please don’t say I’m “Just Playing”.
For, you see, I’m learning as I play,
About balance and shapes.
Who knows, I may be an architect someday.
When I’m getting all dressed up,
Setting the table, caring for the babies,
Don’t get the idea I’m “Just Playing”.
For, you see, I’m learning as I play.
I may be a mother or father someday.
When you see me up to my elbows in paint,
Or standing at an easel, or molding and shaping clay.
Please don’t let me hear you say, “He’s Just Playing”.
For, you see, I’m learning as I play.
I may be a teacher someday.
When you see me engrossed in a puzzle or
Some “plaything” at my school,
Please don’t feel the time is wasted in “Play”.
For, you see, I’m learning as I play.
I’m learning to solve problems and concentrate.
I may be in business someday.
When you see me cooking or tasting foods,
Please don’t think that because I enjoy it, it is “Just Play”.
I’m learning to follow directions and see differences.
I may be a cook someday.
When you see me learning to skip,
hop, run and move my body,
Please don’t say I’m “Just Playing”.
For, you see, I’m learning as I play.
I’m learning how my body works.
I may be a doctor, nurse, or athlete someday.
When you ask me what I’ve done at school today.
And I say, “I Just Played”
Please don’t misunderstand me.
For, you see, I’m learning as I play.
I’m learning to enjoy and be successful in my work
I’m preparing for tomorrow
Today, I am a child and my work is play
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Join Cypress Methodist Church for a delicious Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday, a meaningful tradition that marks the day before Lent begins. Historically, Shrove Tuesday is a time of reflection and preparation, when Christians would use up rich ingredients like butter and sugar before the season of fasting. The children & youth will be there to serve you a delicious dinner, and a love offering will help support their exciting events and mission opportunities this summer. Come enjoy a fun-filled evening of music, food, and great fellowship as we gather to celebrate this special tradition together!
This event is open to everyone!! Please invite your friends, family & neighbors.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a sacred time of reflection and repentance. During this solemn service, worshipers receive the imposition of ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross, a powerful symbol of our mortality and need for God’s grace. The ashes, often made from the palms of the previous year’s Palm Sunday, remind us to turn away from sin and focus on drawing closer to God. This day invites us to humble ourselves, reflect on Christ’s sacrifice, and begin the Lenten journey with renewed hearts and spirits.
Imposition of Ashes will also be available in the Church office from 7 AM - 5 PM
Come, reflect, and prepare your heart for the journey ahead.
