HS Course Selection

Counselors and Admin came over from LVHS to discuss course selection for next year! They are due April 14th - if they lost one or didn't get one, we have extras in the office.

Mouse Trap Cars

This week, the students are testing their mousetrap cars in Coach Janson's Mythbusters class. This is a tradition that the kids look forward to, and this year the results were very impressive. The idea is to test the car using two independent variables. The students tested the cars for speed and distance on a concrete surface and a tile surface. The experiment is fun for the kids and an escape from the grind of academics while learning more about how to solve for speed and distance.

Pop Art!

Inspired by their Pop Art research, 6th graders designed imaginative shoes and created their own pop art prints by drawing into foam board. They moved around the classroom to different printing stations to experiment with various color combinations with contrasting results.

FREE 8th Grade Physicals

In preparation for next year's activities, LVISD is offering free Pre-Participation physicals on Friday, May 2nd and Monday, May 5th to LVISD students in 8th grade.

Athletics, Cheer, Marching Band and students in Special Olympics are eligible. Sports physicals are good for 2 years. Nurse Carmichael will be present with the physician during the exam.

Parents do not need to be present as long as they pre-register. Parents will receive an email invitation soon for registering their child.

1. Parents/Guardians MUST register online (watch for your email) as well as complete the first page of the physical form given to your student.

2. After completing the parent portion, BOTH parent and student must sign it. Have your student TURN IN THE PAPER FORM TO THE Front Office ASAP.

Digital copies of the finished forms will be emailed to parents. Be sure to save it as you will need to upload it into the RankOne Sports app next year.

The finished paper forms will be mailed home to the parent at the end of the school year with report cards.

LVMS Golf 2nd Place!

On Thursday the LVMS Golf Teams traveled to Salado for a tournament at Mill Creek Golf Club. The Blue Team: Trevor Lane, Lucas Jackson, Giovanni Velasquez, Lennox Burton, and Joe Spence finished with an overall team score of 197 strokes. This score was good enough to earn them a 2nd place medal as a team. Trevor Lane came home with additional hardware as the tournament's 2nd lowest score (38). The Gold Team: Aiden Street, Gavin Jordan, Cade Morton, Hudson Smith, and Connor Sarver finished as the 5th place team with a score of 233 strokes. The kids had a ton of fun and learned a lot about playing the game of golf. Next week the LVMS Golf Teams will travel to Hidden Falls Golf Course in Marble Falls.

News From Office...

Lost & Found - Please remember to ask your child to check the Lost & Found. We have lots of jackets that have been turned in since the weather has gotten colder and also lots of water bottles of all shapes and sizes!

Absences - If your child is going to be leaving from school anytime during the school day because of a doctor/dentist visit, you are welcome to take a picture of the note and send it to our nurse/attendance clerk @ tharkins@lagovistaisd.net

Also, if you have a child at home sick, you may send an email to her to let her know so she can mark them on the day of their absence.

School Stickers - If you are wanting to show your school pride on your vehicle, we have three different designs of LV stickers. Just ask for Monica and bring $5 cash for each sticker you would like.

Grade & Attendance Alerts -

We encourage all parents to log into your Parent Portal at any time and set up alerts. Follow the directions and screenshots below.

Once you are logged into your Parent Portal, go to the upper right hand corner of your screen and click on the "bell".

You will then click on the View/Set Alerts.

Click on the Set Alerts to go to the menu to set alerts for grades, assignments and attendance.

Strive for 5!

Our goal in Lago Vista ISD is to ensure that every student benefits as much as possible from the great teaching and learning that happen here every day. When your child misses school, they miss out on learning opportunities that simply can't be replicated. That's why this year, we are encouraging all parents to help our students "Strive for 5!" — aim for five or fewer missed days for your child this school year. Of course, if your child is sick, please keep them home. However, we ask that you try to plan vacations and other activities around our school calendar to minimize the loss of valuable instructional time.

In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.

We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP

Reminder - any student who is either using or in possesion of an e-cigarette(vape) of any type is an automatic DAEP(Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement) sentence.

HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.

Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
