First Day Back!
2024 - 2025
We had a fantastic day here at Hillis!
In the next several days, our teachers and staff will be helping all our students learn the school expectations of being respectful, responsible, and safe. Both students and staff will be getting to know each other and beginning to build classroom communities where everyone can learn.
New This Year!
1. Students will need signed parental approval to bring cell phones and other personal electronics to school. They will be expected to turn their phone off and turn it in to their teacher until the end of the school day.
2. All students need to have their footwear on during recess for safety reasons. The shoes will need to keep their feet safe while running and kicking a ball. Please do not send your child to school in flip flops.
3. Students may bring equipment (such as balls) to school but must be ready to share it with others.
4. All students at Hillis will have free breakfast and lunch provided to them. If your students prefer to eat home breakfast or pick something up on the way to school, they will need to finish the food before entering the building.
5. Students are encouraged to bring nutritional lunches if they chose to bring home lunch. Some examples of lunches that would not meet nutritional value would include only a bag of chips or only cookies or a candy bar. Students that do not bring nutritional lunches will be required to take our free school-based lunch in addition to the items they brought from home. We want to ensure our students are provided with meals that help them stay healthy and learn at their best.
6. Energy drinks and soda are not allowed either as part of your child's lunch or an additional drink during the day. Sports drinks (without caffeine) are allowed.

Arrival and Dismissal at Hillis
7:25 am - school doors open. We will not have adult supervision available before that time, so please plan accordingly!
7:40 am - the school bell rings. Any student who arrives after this time will have to be signed in by an adult in the front office.
We ask that after the first week of school, all parents allow their students to walk in on their own. This includes all grade levels. We have adults in the building who will be able to help your child find their room. The exception to this would be if the student is tardy, in which case an adult will need to sign them in in the office.
2:35 pm - school is dismissed. Please follow the instructions from the school adults during dismissal. Once we settle into a routine, the process will go faster!
Remember:
Vehicles are not allowed to be parked in the right lane of the drive at any time during arrival and dismissal!
Students will be allowed to exit or enter vehicles on the right side ONLY.
Family members other than Hillis students must remain in the vehicle. If you feel that you need to help your student get in our out of the vehicle, you will need to park in a parking spot.
This is for the safety of our students, staff, and families.
