Parents,

As we approach Parent/Teacher Conferences, we are looking forward to working with you as we continue to partner for the ongoing academic and social-emotional growth. On conference night, our PTO provides dinner for our staff, and it is always very appreciated by our staff. If you are able and would like to help, the link to sign up is below.

Focus on Character

Patriotism

We will focus on patriotism this week. We define this as the love that people feel for their country. With election day next week and Veterans Day the week after, it is an ideal time to talk about patriotism and love for country. It is important for us, as adults, to help our kids understand what patriotism is. Patriotism is not linked to political parties. If kids listen to the radio, watch tv or spend time on the computer, they are probably inundated with election ads (most of which are often negative).

The next couple weeks, talk with your child about why it is important to vote and why we honor our Veterans who have served our country. It is our job to help kids find pride in what makes our country a great place to live.

Dropping Items Off at Oak Brook

Just a friendly reminder...When dropping items off at school, please leave them on the table inside the front doors. Staff are monitoring the table as they walk by so no need to ring the bell. Please just fill out a sticky note (include students' name and teacher) and leave the item on the table. Thank you for your help.

Assistant Principal Subsitute

Mrs. Terbrock will be working during the next couple months at a different school to help provide continuity of leadership while the principal is out on extended leave. While we will definitely miss her, we know she will provide solid leadership to help another school in Parkway.

We will have substitute administrators at Oak Brook to fill the Assistant Principal role. The subs are retired administrators from Parkway and other districts, and they will work with Dr. Shirley to continue supporting our students and staff. We just want you to be aware in case you receive a call or email from a name you are not familiar with.
