Dear CSA Family and Friends,

Thanks to many of you, we had a great start to the school year. Students arrived ready to go, there were all hands on deck to support students, staff, and families. The best part of our first week was the smiles and energy from everyone who entered CSA.

Attendance is a major focus for our school this year. If a student is not at school...they cannot learn. This year, admin and staff have teamed up to create an attendance committee. The attendance committee will work with students and their families who show warning signs of absenteeism. Our goal is 93% average daily attendance.

Last week we fell short of our goal. We averaged 89% daily attendance. To help increase attendance this week we are challenging all students. Students who attend school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will earn a spot to the CSA attendance challenge cookout, this Friday.

Arriving to school/ class consistently and on time is imperative for student success. Just being five minutes late each day adds up to hours of missed instruction and can jeopardize a student’s ability to graduate on time. CMSD’s Code of Conduct dictates students receive 7 excused absences, 5 unexcused, and 7 excused tardies a quarter. CSA administration will hold individual conferences August 28th through September 1st with each student who are currently close to being in violation of these policies.

NWEA testing is set to begin next week in many of our classes. It is imperative that your student is at school on time for each of their testing days. Their classroom teacher(s) will give them more specifics on the actual days of testing for their class.

At CSA, we are setting a high standard for Excellence in Art Education. Our teachers and staff are top of their field and we celebrate their success in and out of the classroom. Our very own Amanda Clark has been recognized by the National Dance Education Organization as one of the nation's most Outstanding Dance Educators of 2023. Audition Notice for AOA’s Fall Musical:

Hairspray Performances are scheduled for November 3, 4 & 5, 2023

Who: Auditions are open to all AOA US and highly motivated and talented MS Students. MS students must obtain parental permission prior to auditioning. We are also working with the amazingly talented students from The Cleveland School of the Arts!

If you would like to participate in this program, please audition. No roles have been previously assigned. All ethnicities are encouraged to participate regardless of race, gender, age, disability and sexual orientation.

When: Auditions are Wednesday and Thursday, August 30 & 31 starting at 3:30 pm. Auditions will consist of a group dance component and an individual singing audition. Auditioners must prepare a portion of a song (1-2 minutes maximum) Call backs will take place on August 31, 2023.

Where: Auditions and callbacks will be held in the Performing Arts Theater, Osborne Building of Andrews Osborne Academy, 38588 Mentor Ave, Willoughby, OH 44094

What is Required: All roles are available. If an actor wishes to be considered for a leading or supporting singing role, they must sing a song in the style of the show. Please prepare at least 1 minute of a song. Karaoke tracks are allowed. If an actor is only interested in a speaking role, they must prepare a monologue or poem. When are Rehearsals? We will rehearse after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We will also rehearse on most Sunday afternoons. Please bring all conflicts when you audition. Scholars who live within the City of Cleveland will receive an RTA bus pass. The bus pass is directly linked to their CMSD student ID card. All scholars will receive their CMSD ID card on the first day of school during grade-level orientation.

Please ensure your scholar arrives at school on time by reviewing their specific bus route. Tardies will be tracked beginning on the first day of school.

Arts Fees have been placed on hold. CSA families should not send art fees at this time.

Although Tiffany Willis-Gilmore, MPH, is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, she spent more than three decades living in Miami, Florida. She has experience as an entrepreneur, public speaking coach, public health professional and educator.

She attended Ashland Theological Seminary and earned a master's degree in public health from Florida International University. She also holds a bachelor's degree in English from Florida Memorial University.

In her daily walk, she demonstrates her philosophy of self-control, decision-making, and integrity. Tiffany delivers the keynote address on advancing one's career and one's personal life. She is the creator of MOMaging 24/7, a platform for parents that offers motivational videos and blogs, the editor of IAM magazine, the president of the FMU Alumni Association South Dade Chapter, and the volunteer and engagement coordinator for Kirby's Year Round, a not-for-profit organization.

As a Parent Ambassador, Tiffany's key objectives include interacting with and reaching out to families, creating and keeping an updated resource room and highlighting accomplishments and suggestions for improvement through parent involvement.

The Postsecondary Planning System assists student support teams with identifying services for students in academic, health, and social/emotional areas. The system also provides school and community leaders with a large-scale view of each student’s progress along the pathway to high school graduation and postsecondary education success.

Congresswoman Brown is launching her inaugural Youth Advisory Council (YAC)!

The OH-11 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) was developed to give high school students the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge about government, provide meaningful input, and enhance their leadership skills.

Through YAC, students will gain the skills and confidence needed to foster long-lasting change in their communities by affecting positive outcomes and impacting the lives of others.

Cleveland Play House ‘s Out-of-School Time Learning Program provides safe, engaging, educational, and developmental services of high-quality before- and after-school programs at CSA at no cost to families.

All of their programming is student-centered. In order to maintain the center of our scholars, they are committed to ongoing and continuous program improvement and curricular evaluation.
