Northwood News September 9, 2024
Be Smart. Be Kind. Be United. Be a Unicorn.
Dear Northwood Community,
What a fun night at the Future Brahmas Game on Saturday! The choir sang the National Anthem, the students ran through the Brahma tunnel behind the football players and a good time was had by all! It was a wonderful community event and there was a huge sea of green shirts! Thank you to everyone who came out to to support Northwood and to support Mac. The results are not in yet for the winning school, but I think we have a good chance!
It's officially the week to celebrate attendance awareness! I hope you all will join us in dressing up each day to celebrate the important role that regular school attendance plays in being successful in school. Here is an interesting fact about Northwood attendance: Last year, in the 2023-2024 school year there were 180 days of school and a total of 3434 absences!!! Let's see if we can do better this year. See below for all of our theme days!
We have a busy and exciting week at Northwood with attendance awareness, book fair, early dismissal and Grandparents Day lunch. See below for all of the information.
Have a great week and thank you for your support!

You can return that paper form or click HERE to reply electronically. The deadline for ordering food was on Friday. If you have not already replied, please do so by Wednesday, so we can preprint your visitors badge. Click HERE for a copy of the lunch scheulde, so you know what time to come.

Morning Routines
Our school day is from 7:30 am - 2:45 pm. Students may enter the building as early as 6:50 am to eat breakfast. If your child arrives before 7:23 am they will wait in the following location K-1: K/1 Hallway, 2-5: Gym. Please have your child put a book in their backpack, so they can read while they wait. At 7:23 am the teachers will pick up the students and go to class. The tardy bell rings at 7:30 am, so please allow plenty of time. In order to ensure the safety of all our students, we ask that parents not come into the building in the mornings. We will make sure that everyone gets to class safely.
School Lunch
We have a wonderful cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch daily. This year meals are provided at no charge to ALL students as part of the Community Eligibility Program. In order for us to keep this service, all families need to provide household income information. You will be receiving a text message (sent to the primary guardian listed in skyward) asking you to compete a very short survey. This information is confidential and not seen by school staff. We need 100% participation, so please take a moment to complete this form when you receive it.
If your child wants "extras" beyond the regular school tray, you need to add money to their cafeteria account by visiting schoolcafe.com or sending in a check or cash.
Click HERE for the August lunch menu.
Pick Up Procedures
Everyone picking up a student from school at dismissal is required to present an official green Northwood Dismissal Tag. If you need an extra one, please let your child’s teacher know. If you do not have a dismissal tag, you will be required to come to the front office and present an ID.
All car pick up and parent pick up must present their tag and wait for their child to be called at dismissal. We will begin calling names at 2:50 pm and all students will be waiting in the buliding until called.
Parent Pick Up will line up on the sidewalk near the marquee, with their green tag and wait to be called.
Car pick up will hang their green tag on their rear view mirror, line up on Rockhill and turn right into the school driveway. Wait for your child's name to be called and pull all the way forward. Please stay in your car. If you need to help your child with their buckle, please park and walk up.
We understand that this may take a little longer, however, we want to ensure that everyone goes homes safely. Thank you for your cooperation.
Students who walk home must have a letter from thier parents on file in the office stating that parents give permission to walk home without adult supervision.
School Absences
Our goal is for all of our students to maintain outstanding attendance (at least 95%).
The best way to learn is by being present at school and on time, ready to learn at 7:30 am every day! If your child needs to be absent due to illness, please be sure to send a note to school the day they return explaining the reason for the absence. Absences for illness and medical appointments will be excused with a written note.
