Welcome to the new school year!
September Kick-Off from Principal Ms. Kaszynski
It is heartwarming to once again hear the sounds of children’s laughter and the enthusiastic voices of our middle school students as they scurry up the stairs to be on time for the start of their classes! September is an exciting, hopeful time as we embark on a new school year with endless possibilities on the horizon. We welcome all the members of the OLL family, former and new, as we begin this exhilarating journey into the 2023-2024 school year!
Value of the Month - Understanding

New Program Kick-Off for 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders
MyPlate! The Food Guide Musical Program
The first session of MyPlate! The Food Guide Musical Program began Monday, September 18. This is a creative nutrition education/physical fitness initiative promoting not only healthful eating habits, but also physical activity as an important component of a healthy lifestyle.
Part of the class is about nutrition; the other part is dance/exercise when the instructor teaches a musical number to each grade that will then be incorporated into a short play as the culminating event of the program in December.
What is MAP?
The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is an untimed assessment administered to all K-8 students in Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of New York three times during the school year: fall, winter, and spring. It measures growth in Math and Reading, and in the middle and upper grades, Language and Science. The results are used by the teachers to inform their instruction and assess the strengths and needs of their individual students. The Superintendent’s Office also uses the data from all of their schools to assess the strength of their academic programming and to plan professional development for teachers and principals.
