Team Dublin Weekly Update
Week of June 3, 2024
Field Trip
On June 12th Team Dublin students will participate in an end-of-year trip to celebrate all their hard work, progress and growth. This year, students will attend an exhibit at Artechouse, an immersive art experience, followed by lunch on the Smithsonian National Mall with their teammates and teachers.*** *** PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE ASAP ***
Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
This week, students will take the end-of-year ReadingPlus assessment, and continue reading Beowulf to explore literary analysis and narrative writing. I am asking that students bring to class a self-addressed, stamped envelope with their home address written in the TO section of the envelope (middle front) by this Friday.
Mr. O'Malley, Math 6 and 7
We have been working hard on the iReady EoY (end of year) assessment on Thursday and Friday. We will continue on Monday. Tuesday no school! Enjoy the day! :)
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
This week we began Unit 7: The Americas. We mapped, did vocabulary, and analyzed thematic maps. Students should be reviewing over the weekend for a quiz on Monday. On Wednesday, we will start looking at culture as the theme of the unit.
Ms. Osman, Science
All but six of the students completed MAP testing this week! Early finishers were allowed to try out some introductory activities to prepare students for next week when our final engineering unit starts. The focus is climate engineering as part of city planning, and rooftop modifications.
On Friday, we ran a demonstration on the practical applications using albedo, or how much light surfaces reflect. Just for fun, we added a subtext lesson on what happens when organic tissue is dehydrated and then rehydrated by using part of our equipment from last year’s earthquake test station.
On Monday, students begin an "internship" with Futura Design. This means they will work to reduce the carbon footprint of the town of Solton, Arizona by developing a plan to alter rooftops in the city. This work will be conducted using the Amplify's RoofMod simulator. The project will culminate with students creating PowerPoints to pitch their design plans to the city planners of Solton. Come be a City Planner and hear the pitch. Please make time for this. One class had no outside judges for the last project. Those students were very disappointed. Do not wait for your student to ask – just volunteer and tell me which class you can do. Please note that I would rather have TOO many of you than NONE of you.
Hope you enjoy your weekend AFTER you check to make sure your student has pencils for class!!!!PLEASE!!!!!Make sure your student is ready to begin the Climate Engineering internship!
Ms. Patsalos, Intermediate ESOL
Students received their last Summative grade of the advisory, a culmination of the System 44 progress and classwork for the past three weeks. This week, in addition to System 44, students will work on a PowerPoint presentation about something important to them that they would like the class to know about. Help your student brainstorm!
